‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ May Already Be Setting Up Rey’s New Jedi Order, Here’s What A New Report Claims
Star Wars is entering an odd in between era right now, caught between wrapping up old storylines and building toward whatever comes next. Fans have spent years waiting on updates about Rey Skywalker’s future, and for a long stretch there was barely anything solid to hold onto. That silence has made every new rumor about her return feel like a bigger deal than it might otherwise be.
‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ has been positioned as the franchise’s next big theatrical swing, a Shawn Levy directed standalone adventure starring Ryan Gosling that is set approximately five years after ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’ according to the official synopsis shared by Disney. It has been marketed heavily as its own thing, a fresh story with new characters rather than a direct continuation of the sequel trilogy.
But according to a new report circulating from ComicBook.com, that framing might be selling the movie a little short. The site cites Making Star Wars, an outlet known for tracking behind the scenes franchise details, in reporting that ‘Starfighter’ will include a story tied to a new Jedi sanctuary, potentially making it the first project to depict the rebuilding of the Jedi Order after ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’ The sanctuary is reportedly located on a planet called Adaria.
That world is described as green and lush with waterfalls and East Asian inspired architecture, blending peaceful natural scenery with modern Star Wars technology like ship landing platforms. Reports also suggest most of the Jedi seen there are padawans rather than trained masters, dressed in beige tunics reminiscent of Obi Wan Kenobi and young Anakin near the end of ‘The Phantom Menace.’ Aaron Pierre is said to play a character connected to that Jedi sanctuary, though it is unclear how large his role will be.
Notably, Daisy Ridley’s Rey is not confirmed to appear in the film itself, but the existence of an active Jedi community strongly implies her rebuilding efforts are already in motion by the time the story takes place. That lines up with long running speculation from fans, who have pointed to the movie’s timeline and marketing as hints of a deeper Force connection. Some have even floated the idea that ‘Starfighter’ is functioning as a bridge between the sequel trilogy era and Rey’s eventual solo movie, unofficially known as ‘New Jedi Order.’
That Rey led project has had a rocky road to the screen. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is attached to direct, with the story following Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order in the aftermath of the sequel trilogy. Development has reportedly moved slowly amid leadership changes at Lucasfilm, and there is still no confirmed release date, which is part of why any hint of Rey’s world bleeding into ‘Starfighter’ has generated so much buzz.
None of this has been confirmed by Lucasfilm, so it remains rumor for now, but it is easy to see why it is landing the way it is.
