‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’: First Look at Character Descriptions & Backstories

‘The Acolyte’ is an upcoming TV series set in the Star Wars universe, created by Leslye Headland. It’s set at the end of the High Republic era, before the main Star Wars films. Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae are the leads.

Headland’s interest in Star Wars began in 2019, and she started developing the series for Lucasfilm in April 2020. The title was announced in December, and filming took place from October 2022 to June 2023. The series, comprising eight episodes, will debut on Disney+ on June 4, 2024. Today, the first trailer for the show was released, giving us a look at the exciting cast of characters.

Amandla Stenberg plays Mae, a former padawan who has become a formidable warrior. Mae finds herself entangled in a dark mystery that unexpectedly places her at the heart of a conflict.

Lee Jung-jae portrays Sol, a revered Jedi Master. Master Sol is known for his wisdom, strength, and mastery of the Force. However, he grapples with emotional turmoil.

Manny Jacinot takes on the role of Qimir, a charming ex-smuggler. Qimir, once a smuggler, now earns his living as a trader, specializing in acquiring rare items and embracing a carefree lifestyle.

Carrie-Anne Moss portrays Indara, a Jedi Master. Master Indara is renowned for her exceptional physical and mental prowess.

Joonas Suotamo embodies Kelnacca, a Wookiee Jedi master, having previously portrayed Chewbacca in the sequel trilogy films and ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story.’

Charlie Barnett takes on the role of Yord Fandar, a Jedi Knight. Yord, hailing from the Jedi Temple, is a diligent rule-abiding Jedi. His commitment to protocol can sometimes cloud his judgment.

Jodie Turner-Smith portrays Mother Aniseya, the head of a coven of witches who prioritize their autonomy and safeguarding their traditions and abilities.

Dafne Keen takes on the role of Jecki Lon, the apprentice to Sol. Despite her youth, she exudes composure and carries herself with maturity.

Rebecca Henderson brings Vernestra Rwoh to life, portraying a Jedi Knight prodigy.

Vernestra Rwoh, once a teenage prodigy, has risen through the ranks of the Jedi Order to become an esteemed elder. Achieving the rank of Jedi Knight at just 15, she further proved her exceptional abilities by taking on Imri Cantaros as her Padawan the following year. Armed with a purple-bladed lightsaber that can transform into a lightwhip, Vernestra led with unyielding faith in the Force and dedication to the Jedi Order. However, following the devastation of Starlight Beacon and the loss of her own Padawan, she withdrew from the Order to focus on her own healing.

Leslye Headland helmed the premiere episodes (episodes 101 and 102) of the series. Other directors include Kogonada (episodes 103 and 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (episodes 104 and 105), and Hanelle Culpepper (episodes 106 and 108).
