‘Star Wars: Visions’ Season 2, Episode 2 Ending Explained: Screecher’s Reach
Welcome to the Ending Explained for Star Wars: Visions, Season 2, Episode 2, titled “Screecher’s Reach.” This is the second episode of Season 2 of Visions, a collection of short animated films by some of the best animation studios in the world. Disney has contracted the best of the best for this second anthology of shorts and has released this second season on May 4th as a way of celebrating Star Wars Day. Screecher’s Reach is directed by Paul Young and animated by Cartoon Saloon.
Screecher’s Reach begins by setting up the stage, in this case, a dark setting with tons of small kids in beds. They all sleep next to each other, and when the alarm rings, they all wake up simultaneously. After they wake up, they dress up and go to work. Child labor isn’t precisely the happiest of situations, so from the get-go, we learn that these kids’ lives aren’t the best. We see that one of the kids gets fed up with her situation and steps off the assembly line. This is Daal, and she wants something more than this. She goes outside the building.
Daal takes off her mask, and some of her friends working in the factory follow her outside. They ask what she is doing. She will probably get in trouble if she doesn’t keep working. Daal explains she needs to get out of there. She needs to go to Screecher’s Reach. Baython, the tallest of the other kids, explains that that is a haunted place full of ghosts. It doesn’t matter; Daal has decided to go no matter what.
On the way, we learn that Daal has always been searching for something more. Baython says there are worst lives than the one they are living. To which Daal replies that there are also better lives out there. They finally reach Screecher’s Reach, a huge dark place with a dark cave. The kids go inside. Inside the cave, the atmosphere is very close to the one Luke experiences when he enters the tree in The Empire Strikes Back. A dark ghost reveals itself, the other kids escape, but Daal remains inside, facing it. The ghost follows her with a red lightsaber.
Daal taps into the force and pushes debris against the ghost. It is there that Daal realizes that there is no ghost living inside the cave, but an actual Sith Lord, an old one. Daal picks up the lightsaber and kills the Sith Lord with it. She emerges to meet her friend, but then it is revealed that all this Daal has been guided by another Sith Lord, who promised her a new life. Daal decides to leave her friends behind and leaves with the Sith Lord, becoming the new Apprentice in The Rule of Two.
