As far as Sword Art Online is concerned, most people are focused on either Kirito, Asuna, or them as a couple, while the other characters are, undoubtedly, in the background. But, the series has a lot of interesting characters, both protagonists and antagonists, and a lot of them are female.

In order to honor the great females of Sword Art Online, we have prepared a list of the 15 strongest Sword Art Online female characters so far. The characters will be taken from different narrative arcs. You’ll find out some basic information about them, from which you will be able to deduce why we have positioned them as we have on our list.

Strongest Sword Art Online Female Characters

The list is going to include a total of 15 characters. They are going to be ranked from 15th to 1st place, with the 15th being the weakest on this list, and the 1st one being the strongest.

15. Alicia Rue

Alicia Rue

She is the chief of the Cait Sith clan. Kirito saves her from an attack by the Salamanders during the negotiations between the Sylphs and the Cait Siths by facing and defeating their champion, Eugene, and funds their faction with all the money he raised in the game.

To thank him, she organizes a joint expedition with her friend Sakuya, the chief of the Sylph clan, to help her pass the “Great Quest” of ALfheim Online by reaching the inaccessible top of the World Tree, and save Asuna.

In the story of the movie Ordinal Scale, she is one of the players loyal to virtual reality games who appear in an online report on the decline in server traffic, and express their reluctance to play Ordinal Scale: she carries Eugene during her swagger. She participates with her friends and their allies in the final confrontation against the very powerful Boss of the 100th Tier of New Aincrad.

14. Tiese Shtolienen

Tiese

In the Alicization Beginning sub-arc, she is an open 6th class noble girl who is chosen by her elder Eugeo as a disciple. By the circumstances, she is close to her master (whom she would like if possible, and half-heartedly, to have as a husband) as well as to her comrade Ronie.

She learns from Kirito the importance of putting honor and justice before respect for the Law when she proves to be unfair. With the latter, they are saved from their attempted rape (her by Laios Antinos, and Ronie by Humbert Jizeck, two elders and nobles – from 3rd and 4th classes – antagonists to Kirito and Eugeo) by his master and his friend, killing Kirito Laios and Eugeo mutilating Humbert.

Considered guilty according to the Table of the Forbidden for their gesture, she can only return her sword to her master the next day and briefly bid him farewell, blaming herself for the situation before he was taken away, chained with Kirito in Amayori, the dragon of the Knight of Integrity Alice Synthesis Thirty.

13. Fanatio

FAnatio

She is the sixth Integrity Knight to appear. She initially conceals her voice and her true appearance under her armor, and has under her command her own disciples, other low-level Integrity Knights called the “Four Swinging Blades” (they are Dakira Synthesis Twenty-Two, Jeis Synthesis Twenty-Three, Giro Synthesis Twenty-Four and Hobren Synthesis Twenty-Six, also anonymized under their armor until their mention to Eugeo by Bercouli), who also form her own, personal guard.

Her state of mind greatly influences her combat capacity and the blade of her sword, “Transperciel”, allows her to concentrate the sunlight and reflect it in rays, which pierce through all matter like lasers, causing a lot of damage.

She demonstrates a long-standing love for her elder and master Bercouli Synthesis One (whose opinion he has of her seems to have a lot of impact on her abilities), although she has refrained from initiating anything.

This lasted for a whole century, his complexes being nourished by the little reciprocity that he shows her, not to mention the arrival of Alice Synthesis Thirty (prodigy and considered as strong as well as very beautiful) within order.

12. Lisbeth

Lisbeth SAO

Rika, known as Lisbeth in Sword Art Online, is a great blacksmith who makes extremely rare weapons. She is also a fairly skilled player who fights with the help of masses, and gets very close to Silica. Asuna is one of her friends.

Unknowingly recommended by the latter, she meets Kirito when the latter decides to go to his shop on the 48th level, in order to have a new sword forged: their first meeting makes a bad impression on him when he questions the solidity of the weapon she offers him, and which he involuntarily breaks while trying to test it with his own. Feeling

challenged, she accompanies him in order to obtain a very rare metal, essential for the creation of this new weapon, in a snowy and particularly cold place of the 55th level.

11. Sachi

Sachi

Member of the first guild Kirito agreed to join, the Black Cats in Moonlight, made up of a modest group of friends from a school computer club in the real world. She shows a gentle, insecure and cowardly personality.

Initially a shield swordsman, and group tank with her brother in arms Tetsuo, she is however aiming for a reconversion as a lancewoman under the temporary protection of Kirito: but she is too scared at the idea of fighting monsters and dying, which makes her weak and unreliable on a battlefield.

She gets very close to Kirito, who reassures her with his fighting prowess and his desire to protect her, ensuring that she sees as much as possible to the survival of the group.

10. Sakuya

Sakuya

She is the chief of the Sylph clan. Kirito saves her from an attack by the Salamanders during the negotiations between the Sylphs and the Cait Siths by facing and defeating their champion, Eugene, and funds their faction with all the money he raised in the game.

To thank him, she organizes a joint expedition with her friend Alicia Rue, the leader of the Cait Sith clan, to help her pass the “Great Quest” of ALfheim Online by reaching the inaccessible top of the World Tree, and save Asuna.

In the story of the movie Ordinal Scale, she is one of the players loyal to virtual reality games who appear in an online report on the decline in server traffic, and express their reluctance to play Ordinal Scale.

9. Silica

Keiko

This is a 13 year old girl who is still experiencing her first VRMMORPG. She uses an uncommon skill, “Trainer” (or Beast Tamer), which allows the player to be assisted by a familiar during combat (this one can heal the player, for example).

She fights with a dagger in normal times, and becomes very close to Lisbeth. She always walks around with her healer dragon Pina, and this youthful appearance coupled with the dragon’s “plush” aspect has given Silica a reputation as a small group mascot, more present for looks than actual combat.

By getting lost in the Forest of the Lost of the 35th Tier with his familiar, the latter will be killed by a group of ape-like beasts while protecting his friend, just before Kirito appears and saves Silica from these monsters.

8. YUNA

YUNA

She is the idol of Ordinal Scale and many players (including Keiko, Rika and Suguha), number one in the leaderboard and invincible thanks to the Ordinal system. She creates songs: her dream is to become a diva and to perform on stage, in front of thousands of people.

Some doubt her nature and suspect her of being a real person, appearing larger than life to a non-playable character.

In reality, Yuna is an artificial intelligence modeled after one of the four thousand victims of Sword Art Online: the daughter of Professor Shigemura, Yūna Shigemura, a weak bard singer in Aincrad and love of Eiji who was among the first victims, surviving since with the data of Sword Art Online and that the latter tries with the professor to “resuscitate” by recovering the memories of all the players who knew her.

7. Yuuki

Yuuki 1

Sharing with Asuna using her real first name (which is also ironically homophone with her last name) as a pseudonym, she is a very talented swordsman of the Imps race who appears in the Mother’s Rosario arc, during of the second season.

She fights punctually at the foot of the same tree in a duel, against all those who wish it: holder of the original sword skill “Mother’s Rosario” (allowing a sequence of eleven successive blows), she remains undefeated in a duel (including against Kirito, who claims from Yuuki to Asuna that she is so much faster than him at the sword that she would have inherited “Double Fencing” instead.

6. Quinella

Quinella

The main antagonist of the Alicization Beginning sub-arc, she rules over the Human Empire in the Underworld. She is the creator of the Church of the Axiom as well as of the Module of Piety, which dwells and serves to appease every Knight of Integrity, and the enemy of Cardinal.

Their shared story is told by Cardinal to Kirito in the “Great Library”, where he takes them with Eugeo to safety after their escape (and flight). She spends most of her time resting in her quarters on the 100th floor of the Great Cathedral in Centoria.

5. Leafa

Suguha

Deuteragonist of the Fairy Dance arc, it is with her that Kirito meets in ALfheim Online, and who introduces him to the game. This is Kazuto’s sister (adopted, actually cousin), having been brought up together.

Not a survivor of Sword Art Online, she is only seen sporadically in the first arc and brought up in episode four by Kirito, for whom Silica looks a bit like her.

She is only actually introduced during the second arc, when she is accidentally rescued from a group attack of Salamanders by Kirito after arriving in ALfheim Online and then teams up with him, without either of them knowing the real identity of the other.

4. Sinon

Shino

Deuteragonist of the Phantom Bullet arc, it is with her that Kirito meets in Gun Gale Online, and who introduces him to the game. At 16 the best marksman in Gun Gale Online, and darling of some players, she will first take Kirito for a girl because of her androgynous appearance in the game (the latter possessing the extremely rare M9000 type).

During her childhood (when she was 11 years old), she personally witnessed a post heist and killed the robber with her own pistol, which made her unwillingly very fragile in real life, causing her post-traumatic stress every time she is confronted with danger.

3. Alice

Alice Synthesis Thirty

The deuteragonist of the Alicization arc, and protagonist of the first part of the War of Underworld sub-arc. She was Kirito’s and Eugeo’s best friend in the Underworld. Daughter of the chief of the village of Rulid where they grew up as children, she studied the Sacred Arts there and was considered very gifted in this area. She also has a younger sister, Selka, who will take over when she leaves the village.

2. Yui

Yui

Yui is not strictly speaking a player, but is actually an Aincrad control program intended for the psychological support of the players. At the launch of Sword Art Online however, the Cardinal Master Control program forbids her to come into contact with them, and she attends helplessly to the desperation of the players trapped in the game, to the point of collapsing herself.

However, after her attention shifts to two players who are different from the others, she eventually comes into contact with Kirito and Asuna while wandering in the forest near their 22nd Landing home, having apparently lost her memory.

Due to her appearance and her little girl attitude, she designates herself Kirito and Asuna as her parents, which they accept by adopting her. She then steps in to aid Kirito in a deadly fight during a rescue mission, revealing his artificial intelligence nature that can intervene in the system and reviving his memory.

1. Asuna

Asuna SAO

She is the only known Sword Art Online player to use her real name as a pseudonym. Due to her great beauty, she receives many invitations and proposals (including marriage proposals). She is a skilled player and won the title of “Lightning Bolt” for her extraordinary skill at the sword.

She looks a bit haughty and difficult to access at first, but quickly becomes gentle and sensitive. During the first arc (Aincrad), Asuna fell in love with Kirito and agreed to marry him: she then left her apartment in Selmburg at 61st Landing to buy with him a common and remote house, in the forest of 22nd Landing.
