‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ Hijacks Election Night TV With a Message From President Snow
Lionsgate has spent months immersing fans in the world of Panem ahead of ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’. A big part of that campaign has been Capitol TV, an in-universe website that bills itself as “Panem’s source of truth.”
In August, the site launched with “A Special Announcement from President Snow,” a 90-second broadcast featuring Ralph Fiennes as Coriolanus Snow. In it, Snow addressed the citizens of Panem, recalling the Dark Days before turning his attention to the Reaping.
The campaign has now moved from the internet to live television. As Pop Crave shared, a new ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ broadcast aired on CNN during its U.S. Election Night coverage.
Footage captured by a viewer shows CNN’s “Election Night in America” broadcast with Fiennes’ Snow appearing on screen in a triple-panel display. He stands at a microphone in a dark, formal outfit, staring straight ahead as if delivering an official state address.
Complex Pop Culture reported that the in-universe promo appeared on both Fox News and CNN during their election night coverage. The placement made the clip feel like a real broadcast interrupting the news, and fans quickly shared it online.

The timing played directly into the franchise’s themes. ‘The Hunger Games’ series has always explored propaganda, media, and power, and Snow’s broadcasts are designed to feel like official messages from the Capitol.
Running one during election coverage blurred the line between fiction and reality in a way that grabbed viewers’ attention. The clip’s spread on social media suggests the strategy worked.

It also continued a busy day for the franchise. Earlier, Jennifer Lawrence quoted ‘The Hunger Games’ in an Instagram post about voting, writing “Don’t forget who burns with us” alongside a photo of herself raising the famous 3-finger salute.
Fiennes plays a younger version of Snow in the prequel, set 24 years before the original ‘The Hunger Games’. Earlier promotional material has included a poster presenting him as “Panem’s No. 1 Peacekeeper,” along with “No Peace, No Prosperity” propaganda first spotted during filming in Duisburg, Germany.
In Suzanne Collins’ novel, Snow suffers from mysterious mouth sores. Haymitch eventually realizes that Snow poisons himself along with his victims to avoid suspicion, a habit that leaves lasting damage.
The film follows a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, after he’s chosen for the 50th Hunger Games. Because it’s a Quarter Quell, each district must send twice the usual number of tributes.

The cast also includes Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, and Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee. Kieran Culkin plays Caesar Flickerman, and Glenn Close plays Drusilla Sickle.
Fans will also see some familiar faces. Lawrence confirmed on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in October that she returns as Katniss Everdeen, alongside Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark and Woody Harrelson as the older Haymitch.

‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ opens in theaters on November 20. With the release just weeks away, Lionsgate’s marketing push is clearly ramping up. Capitol TV has also featured newer videos, including some starring Close as Drusilla.
If the election night stunt is any sign, fans may see even more surprise broadcasts before the film arrives. For now, President Snow has made it clear that the Capitol is watching, even during one of the biggest nights on American television.
