‘Supersex’ Parents Guide: Show’s Age Rating Explained
‘Supersex’ is a biographical drama television series available on Netflix, which premiered on March 6, 2024. It is based on the life of Rocco Siffredi, a well-known Italian pornographic film actor. The series explores his life, with Alessandro Borghi portraying Rocco Siffredi and Saul Nanni depicting his younger years. Other notable cast members include Jasmine Trinca as Lucia, Eva Cela as young Lucia, Adriano Giannini as Tommaso (Rocco’s half-brother), and Francesco Pellegrino as young Tommaso. Due to the sensitive yet appealing nature of the show, we decided to explore the age rating in a bit more detail, and if you’re considering whether your child should watch it – here’s what you should know.
What is ‘Supersex’ really about?
As the name of the show implies, it’s about sex, well not the usual sex but rather the type of sex that makes you famous as was the case with Rocco Siffredi whose life the show was based on. Rocco Siffredi’s entry into the porn industry began when he stumbled upon a pornographic magazine as a teen, sparking his interest. He moved to Paris in his twenties, where he frequented sex clubs and was discovered by French porn actor and director Gabriel Pontello. His debut in porn occurred in 1986 in the film ‘Sodopunition pour dépravées sexuelles.’
He adopted his stage name from a character played by Alain Delon in the film ‘Borsalino.’ Although he briefly worked as a fashion model in the late 1980s, he returned to porn with the assistance of porn actress Teresa Orlowski. Siffredi’s performances spanned various styles, from plot-based to gonzo pornography, and included a wide range of sexual acts, from ordinary to extreme.
Despite the show being based on his life, Siffredi himself commented:
This beautiful story is inspired by my life, but it is not my life… Everything you will see in ‘Supersex’ originates from me, but then the writer put a lot of herself into it.
You can always count on Netflix to make it over the top.
‘Supersex’ should not be watched by younger audiences
Completely unsurprising, ‘Supersex’ has a TV-MA rating meaning that audiences younger than 17 shouldn’t watch it. The biggest problem that the show has are sexual themes, sexual innuendos, sexual acts, and pornography. I mean I don’t want to be too graphic here but you get the point. There is also a lot of partying that comes with drinking, drugs, and smoking, and yes I know, you can see substance abuse everywhere today, but in this context, it’s especially inappropriate.
I’m usually pretty liberal when it comes to age ratings but in this case, I have to agree with the official guidelines. No teen should watch this show, the premise will be tempting but I don’t think they should be exposed to such influences and such themes, not unless you can explain it to them in a mature way and rational way, and let’s face it you won’t watch the show with your teen son or daughter.
Teens simply don’t have the experience and emotional maturity to understand what the show is really about and they will take all the surface messages and twist them to interpret them in the most conformist way possible. So no, your child should absolutely not watch this show. If you want a a taste of how graphic the show really is you can always check out the teaser trailer to settle your doubts.
