Sydney Sweeney Comments on ‘Madame Web Failure’: “I Was Just Along for the Ride”

It’s been exactly a month since ‘Madame Web’ came out, intended as the next part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, minus Spider-Man, focusing on side characters. But instead of success, it’s been a big flop for the studio, becoming a meme machine. It didn’t make much money, failing to surpass even the low bar set by ‘Morbius,’ the previous record-holder for bad SSU movies.

The actors are dealing with it in their own ways. Sweeney, who played Julia Carpenter, one of the Spider-Women, joked about the movie lightly, while Dakota Johnson (Cassandra Web) got serious, criticizing the studio executives for what they’re putting out. Johnson might have stirred up some trouble with her remarks, with rumors saying it’ll be tough for her to mend things with Sony.

Sweeney also spoke up about the movie during an interview with the Los Angeles Times while promoting her new film ‘Immaculate.’ She didn’t mince words about ‘Madame Web’s’ failure, shutting down the topic pretty fast.

I was just hired as an actress in it, so I was just along for the ride for whatever was going to happen.

Sweeney isn’t taking the blame for the failures of the writing and directing team, which seems fair. Most people weren’t criticizing the performances anyway. They were mainly pointing out issues like plot holes, bad writing, unrealistic dialogue, lack of action, and poor CGI. Plus, the heavy marketing focused on grown-up Spider-Women who barely appeared in the movie, just in a short dream sequence.

But regardless, we’re excited for Sweeney’s future projects. ‘Madame Web’ won’t affect her career much, if at all. Got anything to say about it? Drop a comment below!
