Tanner Hagen Spotted in Shaggy’s Classic Green Look in ‘Scooby-Doo: Origins’ First Set Photos
New photos from the set of the upcoming Netflix series “Scooby-Doo: Origins” show actor Tanner Hagen fully in character as Shaggy Rogers.
The 21-year-old was spotted filming on April 27 in Atlanta, Georgia. He wore Shaggy’s well-known green shirt while shooting scenes for the series. The images give an early look at how the character is being adapted for this new live-action project.
“Scooby-Doo: Origins” is a modern take on the classic franchise and mixes live-action with CGI. The story follows a group of teenagers during their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears. What starts as a summer together turns into a dark mystery involving a supernatural case tied to a Great Dane puppy. The group ends up facing secrets from their past while trying to solve the case.
The main group includes Shaggy, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Fred Jones. In this version, they are pulled into a mystery that becomes more dangerous as they investigate what really happened.
Tanner Hagen plays Shaggy Rogers. This is expected to be his biggest role so far. Before this, he had smaller appearances, including a role in “The Pitt” on HBO Max and the YouTube series “Dhar Mann,” where he played a young version of MrBeast.
The cast also features Mckenna Grace as Daphne, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred. Paul Walter Hauser is part of the series as a character linked to Scooby-Doo. Frank Welker provides the voice for Scooby-Doo, who is described as a talking Great Dane puppy.
The series was created by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who also serve as showrunners. It is produced by Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and Midnight Radio. Development started in 2024 and was later officially confirmed. Filming began in late April 2026.
The show will have eight episodes and is expected to stream on Netflix. The first episode will be directed by Toby Haynes.
This project is interesting because it tries to bring a familiar animated franchise into a darker live-action style. That can work if the story stays simple and clear, but it can also be risky with such a well-known group of characters. What do you think about this new “Scooby-Doo: Origins” series?
