Even though James Gunn and Peter Safran are moving full speed ahead with the DC Universe (DCU), the identity of the next Batman remains a mystery.

Fans have suggested several actors, including Alan Ritchson and Jensen Ackles, though Ritchson recently admitted that talks with Gunn didn’t lead to the Batman role.

Now, speculation is growing around Aaron Taylor-Johnson. A fan account on X, Everything_DCU, noticed that Gunn recently started following Taylor-Johnson on Instagram. This sparked rumors that he could be the one to take on the Batsuit.

Taylor-Johnson is no stranger to superhero roles. He played Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and recently appeared as Kraven the Hunter in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

While Kraven didn’t perform well at the box office, critics generally praised Taylor-Johnson’s performance. The actor also has several upcoming projects, including 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Werwulf, and Blood on Snow.

James Gunn recently addressed the Batman casting in an interview with The Ringer-Verse. While he didn’t confirm any names, he explained that several actors are being considered.

“Do I have ideas about actors to play Batman? Absolutely, I do. I have guys I like. I have guys that are at the top of the list, just like I had people that were at the top of the list for Superman,” Gunn said. “People can guess, and maybe they’ll be right about certain things. I don’t know. It’s totally up in the air.”

He also emphasized that the casting process will be careful. “We’d have to screen test, we’d have to do the whole thing. It’s unlikely that I’m going to hire someone just randomly. But it’s possible! I know one actor in particular who’s a pretty big star that wants to be Batman. We’ve talked about it, but I’m not sure that’s the case.”

Gunn confirmed that the Batman script is still being written. “The script isn’t done, I mean, we’ve got somebody writing a script, I think it’s really good. But it isn’t finished yet,” he said.

It seems fans will have to wait a little longer before knowing who will don the cape and cowl in the new DCU. With Gunn taking a careful approach, the casting process could reveal a fresh face or even a surprising choice for the iconic role.
