The Batman: Matt Reeves Says One Spin-Off Series Will Be Focused On Arkham Asylum

The Batman movie directed by Matt Reeves is coming closer and closer with each passing second. And while some fans are still waiting to get into a theater to watch it (and some lucky ones are already settling down their thoughts on it), Reeves is already teasing what the future will bring.

It’s been known since the beginning of the production that the movie will be set outside of the DCEU, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a part of some shared universe in a way. Reeves already announced that the movie will start the so-called Bat-verse, with the two movie sequels planned and two spin-off shows announced for HBOMax.

It was previously announced that the spin-off shows will be centered on the Police Department in Gotham City, which some fans think might be some kind of reboot of Bruno Heller’s Gotham. The second announced spin-off show will be centered on the character of Penguin, who is played in the movie by Colin Farrell.

Now, Reeves teases that there’s one more spin-off series in development, which will supposedly be set in the Arkham Asylum, the famous mental hospital where most of Batman’s villains reside after they get caught by the Dark Knight (and before they escape for a zillionth time).

“We’re doing [The Penguin series] and we’re doing another series that connects to Arkham [Asylum].” — Matt Reeves for Toronto Sun

Arkham Asylum is one of the most known places in Batman mythology. The famous video game Batman: Arkham Asylum was completely set there after Joker purposely surrendered himself to Batman so that he could take over the whole nuthouse. We don’t know what Reeves is planning with this, but we’re very interested, especially because this can be a way to introduce some villains that are already incarcerated there.

Directed by Matt Reeves, and starring Robert Pattinson in a titular role, The Batman is set to open in theaters worldwide tomorrow!
