‘The Night Agent’: 10 Best Quotes from Netflix’s New Hit

Share:

Perhaps it was somewhat unexpected, but The Night Agent became the latest huge Netflix hit that swooped the competition and took the number one spot of the most viewed content on Netflix since its arrival. It’s a political thriller based on a quite intriguing book and full of twists.

However, one of the things I liked the most about the show is the intelligent writing and awesome dialogue that guide you through the show and through the development of the characters. So, without further ado, here are the ten best quotes from Netflix’s new hit, The Night Agent.

”Doctor says I gotta do one good deed a day for my health.”

This quote came directly from the main character, Peter Sutherland, right in the opening scene of the show. It happens in a jam-packed subway train when a woman with a child in one hand and a huge grocery bag in the other enters the cart. Peter gets up and offers her his seat, which she denies at first, but then he delivers this quote to make her smile and accept his offer.

I picked this quote because it truly represents who Peter is and sets up his character throughout the first season of action. He’s genuinely a good person, as you see through the show moving forward. Netflix actually posted the entire scene on Twitter, which you can watch below.

“We have a zero-fail mission to uphold, which means that we expect nothing short of perfection.”

This quote perfectly explains what’s going on and how important Peter Sutherland’s mission is. Usually, the phone line he’s responsible for never rings. But, when it does – you better believe it’s a matter of national security.

Technically, the quote didn’t come from the line, per se, but rather in a speech before Peter and other new FBI agents administered their oath, but it gives you an idea of how important their work is.

“The more you know, the more dangerous this becomes.”

At first, this is just a quote. At the end of the day, it’s an agent’s job to investigate, look for clues, and get to the bottom of the truth, right? Well, it is – but that doesn’t mean it gets any less dangerous.

As Peter investigates, he realizes the conspiracy is leading him all the way up to the highest ranks of the US government, into the White House. The more he finds out, the more dangerous things become for him and for Rose.

“This runs deeper than you realize and farther than you can imagine.”

This quote comes from Rose, who sort of becomes Peter’s partner in the investigation. And again, not only does it perfectly depict the plot and the conspiracy that’s going on, but it also prepares us as viewers for some major, epic plot twists all the way throughout the show.

Those you think are allies become enemies. Those you think are enemies become allies. The show will just hook you to the seat, and the quote sums up why perfectly.

“The FBI is the United States’ premiere law enforcement agency.”

This is yet another quote from the introductory ‘oath’ speech for new FBI agents that doesn’t really have an important ring to it when it’s out of context. However, when you put it into the context of the show itself – a major conspiracy going all the way to the top – it makes you think.

What if the premiere law enforcement agency becomes a part of the conspiracy? Who’s there to control them?

“‘You want me to be a night agent?’ ‘God no, I want you to answer the phone for them.’”

I loved this quote between Peter and his boss, Diane Farr, who got him into the White House basement in the first place. What started as a simple phone-answering gig turned into a life-changing conspiracy hunt for Sutherland, and in the end, he truly became a night agent – not just a phone boy.

“I have orders to protect you with my life.”

Peter Sutherland delivers this quote to Rose Larkin, who was attacked in an assassination attempt that’ll prove to be a part of the ever-evolving conspiracy. It shows how dedicated and determined Peter is to do his job right – even if it means putting his life in jeopardy.

“This isn’t a terrorist attack. This is an assassination attempt.”

This particular quote – and moment between Rose and Peter – is where everything starts falling into place, and they start realizing that this goes way beyond they initially thought. As Rose finds evidence that the ‘terrorist attack’ wasn’t a terrorist attack at all, we, as viewers, also come to grasp with just how deep the story will go.

“You’re really on my side, aren’t you?”

When Rose Larkin first contacted the authorities, and Peter arrived at her aid, she didn’t trust him. Experience taught her never to trust anyone – not even those who claim to protect her. However, when this particular quote came out of her mouth, we realized how their relationship changed and evolved over time.

Rose starting to believe Peter is the only reason why their crazy plan worked in the end. Well, kind of worked.

“I thought I could read my way to Stanford. Those bastards rejected me. I went to a community college, then transferred to Berkeley. When I started my company, I hired a bunch of Stanford grads to fetch my coffee.”

Unlike other quotes on this list, this one gives us a better look into Rose Larkin’s life and character. She speaks to Peter about her college days and explains how getting rejected from Stanford actually sparked something in her to go even harder. I loved this quote and Rose as a character in this show. The quote came from Episode 5, called The Marionette.
