Ships are popular in the world of anime, and no series is spared from fans shipping their favorite characters together. Some fan couplings have more sense, and some have less, but you can usually find a variety of combinations, regardless of the series. That is a well-known fact that all anime and manga fans know. That is also what inspired this article, as we will discuss a popular ship from The Rising of the Shield Hero. Namely, in this article, you will find out whether Sadeena and Naofumi are in love in the series and the true nature of their relationship.

  • Article Breakthrough:
  • Naofumi Iwatani is the principal protagonist of The Rising of the Shield Hero and the hero everyone looks up to. Following isekai traditions, many female characters actually simp over him in the series, but he still rejects everyone’s attempts at flirting.
  • After he could drink more than her, Sadeena fell in love with Naofumi, but he has since rejected her attempts at flirting with him, although they are close.
  • It is unlikely that Sadeen and Naofumi will end up as a couple in The Rising of the Shield Hero.

Does Naofumi marry Sadeena? Who does he fall in love with?

When he was summoned, Naofumi was initially very trusting and upbeat, excited about his circumstances. However, everything changed soon after being betrayed by the Princess of Malta. Naofumi develops mistrust, cynicism, and malice toward the world after being left penniless, falsely accused of rape and unloved.

He begins to prepare for betrayal as he thinks people would try to trick him and finds it difficult to trust anyone who is not his slave as a traveling companion. Even though he normally acts calmly, this betrayal has left him in an almost constant state of fury and animosity. Despite his tough exterior, he is sympathetic and concerned about his friends.

As you can see, Naoufumi’s personality is not really the best one, and there is not much potential for a ship there. On the other hand, Sadena is definitely in love with him, as he can drink more alcohol than here. Why is that relevant? Well… her words were:

My life companion must be someone who can drink more than me! If I meet someone like that, I’ll never let them go so everyone should be prepared.

Since Naofumi could do that, she fell in love with him, but he has been rejecting her attempts at flirting with him.

Will the two of them end up marrying? This is highly unlikely, knowing how anime works usually ends. If we even had to pick a character whom Naofumi would end up with, it would be Raphtalia, as she is the most likely candidate for this. But, as we’ve said, anime is strong in this aspect, and we cannot predict what will happen in the future, especially since this is actually an isekai work, and these works tend to be even stranger than other anime works.

This is all we have as far as this aspect is concerned, and we are now going to answer an additional question that is related to the issue at hand but also to the general concept of the show.

Does Naofumi have a harem?

Well… this is a very interesting question if you ask us. Namely, The Rising of the Shield Hero is an isekai work, and isekai works often tend to have many ecchi elements, and a lot of them can actually be described as harem or harem-like works. The focus in The Rising of the Shield Hero is still on the adventuring part, but it cannot be denied that Naofumi is surrounded by girls, some of whom are very beautiful and simp over him. Does that make it a harem work?

Well, more or less – yes. Naofumi has a harem, but the dynamics there are not like in traditional harem anime and manga, so we wouldn’t call it a typical harem series. Naofumi is surrounded by girls who, despite him treating them more like family than potential girlfriends, simp him. If you’re aiming for a true harem series, then The Rising of the Shield Hero is not going to satisfy all your needs, but if you like harem-y elements in your anime, then the series is going to be more than enough,
