10. Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru
Author(s): Caramel Box
Genres: Harem, Romance
Release Date: October 8, 2006 – December 24, 2006
Episodes: 12
Additional Material: 4 OVA episodes
Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru tells the story of the main character Mizuho Miyanokouji, an androgynous high school student. After the death of his grandfather, the reading of his will indicates that he wants his grandson transferred to the Seio Girls’ Academy, the school founded by his ancestors and where his own mother studied.
Respecting this will, Mizuho disguises himself in order to infiltrate it. Initially, only the headmistress, head teacher Hisako Kajiura and Mariya Mikado know his secret; Shion Jujo and Ichiko Takashima also eventually find out. Mizuho is very popular with other high school girls, who often discuss her beauty, cuteness, and athleticism. This unbridled popularity increases to the point that he is nominated, against his will, to become the student council president.
Because of this, the current student council president, Takako Itsukushima, opposes Mizuho. The election of the president is an old tradition in the school: in June, one of the high school girls is elected by her peers to be the eldest, seen as the school’s number one “big sister”. Until graduation, she was referred to by her peers as Onee-sama.
To become a senior, the candidate must obtain at least 75% of the votes. If none of the candidates obtains at least 75% in the first ballot, one of the candidates gives her votes to another candidate, then the one who finally obtains at least 75% of the votes becomes the oldest. If no one reaches this threshold, the president of the student council for the current year becomes the eldest.
In Otoboku, Mizuho gets 82% of the vote in the first round, becoming the 72nd oldest in school history. In the following months, Mizuho is confronted with the responsibility entailed by this status and tries to help the other characters as best as possible while keeping his true identity a secret.

The average high school student Natsuru Senō wakes up one morning to the remarkable discovery that he has turned into a girl. It seems even more absurd to him that his stuffed tiger called Harakiri Tora speaks to him and can move. Waking up the next day, he believes that what had happened last night was just a dream and meets Kaede Sakura on the way to school. While attending school, they are unexpectedly attacked by Akane Mishima, who has been transformed into a “Kämpfer,” which makes Natsuru’s bracelet glowed. Remembering Harakiri’s words that he would transform shortly after lighting up, he disappears from Kaede’s field of vision.
In the following argument, both Kaede and Akane are saved from death by Natsuru’s female self, which triggers a strong affection for the female Natsuru in Kaede. After the dispute is settled, Natsuru is approached by the normal Akane at school, who turns out to be a very reserved girl. From her he finally learns that because the bracelet is the same color, they should both belong to the same team, whose opponents should be visible on a red bracelet.
In the further course of the story, it quickly happens that Akane and Natsuru meet the first member of the “Red faction”, which represent the opponents. However, this person turns out to be the head girl of the school of two. The head girl Shizuku, however, wants it to remain a secret in the school that these fighters exist and thus she ensures that Natsuru also goes to this school in his female form.
Furthermore, problems arise again and again because Natsuru cannot yet control his transformation. After a while, however, the blue and red fighters become friends because they see no point in fighting each other as no one can tell them the reason why they should fight. One day, Fūtarō meets Itsuki Nakano, a new student transferred to his high school, who asks him to teach her how to study. However, Fūtarō refuses her request and pisses her off by responding nonchalantly.
Immediately after this conversation, Raiha informs him that their father has found him an odd job of being “tutor to a millionaire’s daughter”, a job he accepts in order to clear the family debt. However, he soon realizes that his job is actually to teach the Nakano Quintuplets, of which Itsuki is the youngest, and must help them graduate.
Fūtarō is very perplexed in the face of the five sisters with different personalities, and who have in common a total disinterest in studies which is expressed by appalling notes.
Most Quintuplets object to the presence of an unknown man in their apartment, but with his diligent tenacity and the support of the Fourth Sister, Yotsuba, Fūtarō continues to interact with the Quintuplets through various events including the summer festival, and gradually managed to gain the trust of the third and first sister, respectively Miku and Ichika.

Looking for a quiet place in which to study, Haruhi stumbles upon the host club of said school, a group of six male students who gather to entertain her “clients”.
During the encounter, Haruhi accidentally trips and breaks an antique vase valued at ¥ 8,000,000 ($ 80,000). To pay for the cost of the vase, she is told that she must work at the club. However, Haruhi’s ambiguous appearance causes her to be mistaken by the members as a male student and she ends up becoming one of the club’s hosts after they noticed that she knew how to entertain the girls.
Haruhi agrees to become the host because she thinks this will help her pay off her debt faster. The members of the club discover her true gender one by one, but they keep this fact a secret. The academy ranges from kindergarten through high school, in addition to having an attached college program.
Most of the students come from wealthy families, but a scholarship is awarded annually to whoever scores the highest on the rigorous entrance exam. Haruhi is one of these scholarship students. The unofficial motto of the school is “Lineage comes first, wealth comes second,” which means that students with stellar family lineages but low socioeconomic status may receive the highest priority over those who come from wealthy families but with minor lineages.
Besides Haruhi, the other members of the host club include President Tamaki Suoh, Vice President Kyoya Ootori, identical twins Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin, Mitsukuni “Honey” Haninozuka, and her cousin, Takashi “Mori” Morinozuka.
Tamaki plays the role of the charming and handsome host, with a request rate of 70%, for which he holds the title of “King”. However, Kyoya is the one who runs the club behind the scenes while maintaining a charming facade.
Honey comes from a distinguished family of martial artists, but plays the role of an innocent boy who has a great passion for stuffed animals and sweets, while Mori is his stoic and silent protector, fierce-looking but kind-hearted.
All characters are parodies of typical characters from the shōjo manga, with Haruhi playing the “natural” type, Tamaki the “princely” type, Kyoya as the “cool” type, the Hitachiin twins as the “diabolic” type, Honey as the “devilish” type. “childish” and Mori as the “strong and silent” type.
10 Best Undubbed Harem Anime
10. Stringendo: Angel-tachi no Private Lesson
Author(s): Seto Yuuki
Genres: Erotic, harem
Release Date: January 27, 2006 – April 27, 2012
Episodes: 12 (OVA)
Additional Material: Stringendo+Accelerando Ultimatum Sera, 3-episode sequel OVA (May 23, 2008 – October 31, 2008)
The concept of Stringendo is based on the fact that objectively average guys date most popular girls. In this aspect, Stringendo was a sort of refreshment in the industry, which is why it became a classic among fans. The animation quality differs greatly between episodes; the first ones in the chronology boasts obviously larger budgets than later installments, but that’s not really something you’ll notice while watching.
9. Accelerando: Datenshi-tachi no Sasayaki
Author(s): Seto Yuuki
Genres: Erotic, harem
Release Date: January 27, 2006 – February 26, 2010
Episodes: 4 (OVA)
Additional Material: Stringendo+Accelerando Ultimatum Sera, 3-episode sequel OVA (May 23, 2008 – October 31, 2008)
Unlike Stringendo, Accelerando never really received the same amount of acclaim, but due to it being a “pairing” of the former, we had to include it on our list. It was written by the same artist and both series actually debuted on the same day, although Accelerando had a much shorter run than Stringendo and was usually described as weird, confusing, or messy.
The main story is focused on the first episode, which features four characters: a waitress, the boy she likes and who also likes her, a man, and his female friend.
Tamaki and Ohashi secretly like each other but have trouble expressing their love because they’re both very stereotypical timid anime characters. And while they do get the most screen time, their stories are somewhat bland and predictable.
Episode 1 seemed to be the best story-wise, although it didn’t really set a high standard there.
As for the rest, episodes 2, 3, and 4 don’t really have a consistent, linear plot. Instead, each of them is composed of two different stories: one related to the main plot (or at least containing characters from the first episode) and the other with a completely new story and characters, usually a backstory for an already-known character.
As people generally say, these unconnected, singular stories (particularly the last one) were far more interesting than the main plot of the series.
The parts of episodes 3 and 4 that show the main plot seemed like mere fillers and there is nothing interesting about them. The original stories still seem far more interesting, but all in all, Accelerando remains an incoherent mess that didn’t really portray anything and people are unsure whether it actually wanted to portray anything.
8. Bible Black
Author(s): ActiveSoft
Genres: Drama, horror, harem
Release Date: July 25, 2001 – June 25, 2003
Episodes: 6 (OVA)

Like Discipline, Bible Black is probably the best-known series to non-fans and it has a reputation. It combines the supernatural and bizarre with everyday situations, providing for something better suited for those with a strange(r) appetite, as there is really little to no “classical” material in here.
An academy student, Taki Minase, finds a strange book, the Bible Black, which, he finds, contains instructions for dark magic, which is actually a form of Kabbalistic satanism.
Using the book’s magic, Minase is able to make Rika Shiraki fall in love with him, as well as help his friend, Ayumi Murai, get the boy she loves to love her back. Reika Kitami, the school nurse, hears of his magical acts and decides to sway him to her since she needs the book for herself.
Twelve years prior, Kitami was used as a sacrifice and only survived after making a deal with Satan, becoming a hermaphrodite in the process.
After Imari is abducted by Kitami, the lesser demon leaves Minase and he realizes that he loves Imari and must save her. With the help of Takashiro and the Bible Black, he finds a spell Takashiro believes will stop Kitami’s evil scheme.

In order for him to be accepted into the house legally, he needs to provide an heir, and in order to do that, he must choose a wife from his very own harem!
Harem Time The Animation is, as the name suggests, an example of the harem subgenre, where one male character is surrounded by a large(r) group of female characters.
We picked Harem Time to give our list a bit of diversity and since it’s based on a manga, that is usually some guarantee of quality. Harem Time embodies everything the harem subgenre should have and it also contains a somewhat interesting (sub)plot related to family intrigues, lineages, and heritage.
It also has some important romantic elements, so it’s going to satisfy those that don’t just want explicit content. It’s not the best story-driven anime out there, but it is certainly watchable, which is why it found its way on this list.

Once in his new home, Shiki discovers that his cousins, whom he has not seen since early childhood, have already become adult girls and live together after the death of their parents.
The eldest of the sisters, Natsumi Orifushi, inherited her father’s business and owns an ice cream stand. The younger sisters, Akina, and Mafuyu, still attend the school to which Shiki is transferred. In his new class, the protagonist expands his circle of acquaintances at the expense of the head Midori Byakudan, her friend Suzuran Himenohara and her deskmate Tsukasa Honnoji.
As the story progresses, it turns out that it was decided to open a large ice cream parlor chain next to Natsumi’s stall. So that the family does not lose their only source of income, Shiki helps cousins find and master their father’s recipe and also organizes participation in the competition for the title of the best ice cream outlet at the local annual festival.
