The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is continuing its strong run at the box office and is now one of the biggest hits of 2026. The film is made by Universal and Illumination, and early numbers show that it is performing well above expectations, according to studio estimates and Comscore data.

In its second weekend in cinemas, the movie added around 69 million dollars from more than 4,000 theaters in the U.S. and Canada. This brings its domestic total to just over 308 million dollars, while its global earnings have reached about 629 million dollars.

Even though the film dropped about 48 percent compared to its opening weekend, industry experts say this is still a strong result for a major blockbuster.

Paul Dergarabedian from Comscore described the performance as steady and impressive. He said, “it’s a very respectable hold.” He also added, “For the film to already be over $300 million is just astonishing.”

He noted that a large part of the audience is families and children, which often means lower ticket prices. Still, the overall numbers show strong demand. The movie is also helping keep the box office active before the summer season begins.

The film is already ahead in total earnings compared to many other recent releases, even though it is still early in its theatrical run. It was produced with a budget of around 110 million dollars, which makes its current performance very profitable so far.

Other films are also in the box office rankings. Project Hail Mary continues to perform well in its fourth weekend, adding more than 24 million dollars and pushing its global total past 510 million dollars.

Meanwhile, The Drama saw a smaller drop in its second weekend, earning about 8.7 million dollars and reaching a worldwide total of around 65 million dollars. Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers also remains steady in theaters with over 350 million dollars globally so far.

One of the newer entries, Exit 8, opened in limited theaters but still managed to gain attention, earning 1.4 million dollars and receiving strong audience ratings.

The success of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is now leading some analysts to predict a possible final global total between 1 billion and 1.5 billion dollars if the current trend continues. If that happens, it would become one of the top films of the year and one of the strongest video game adaptations at the box office.

This kind of performance shows how powerful family-friendly franchises are at the box office right now. People keep returning for these kinds of movies, especially when they are tied to well-known games or characters. Do you think this film will actually reach the 1 billion mark, or will it slow down soon? Let me know what you think in the comments.
