The Title of “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” Has Reportedly Been Updated Once Again
Agatha first appeared in the Disney+ series ‘WandaVision’ as a nosy neighbor who turns out to be a powerful witch wanting to take Wanda’s powers. At the show’s end, she’s defeated and left powerless, stuck in her neighbor persona, setting up her story for the new series. Agatha has a rich history in the comics as a powerful magic user, which ties her to Wanda.
The character became popular in her live-action form, leading Marvel Studios to start working on a dark comedy spin-off centered on Kathryn Hahn’s portrayal in October 2021.
Hahn’s role was part of a larger deal with Marvel Studios, leading to the series being announced as ‘Agatha: House of Harkness’ during Disney+ Day in November 2021. The title changed to ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’ in July 2022, and then to ‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries’ in September 2023. According to the official Disney+ site, the show will now simply be called ‘Agatha’, with previous titles used for episodes.
Leaks and rumors had hinted at this unique approach, fitting Agatha’s character and seen as a clever marketing move.
Originally set for a late 2023 release, the series was pushed back as part of Disney and Marvel Studios’ schedule adjustment, making ‘Secret Invasion’ and ‘Loki’ season two the only releases in 2023.
‘Agatha’ will premiere on Disney+ in late 2024, featuring nine episodes and becoming part of Phase Five of the MCU.
