‘The Witcher’ Season 3: Who Is Keira Metz? Meet Safiyya Ingar’s Character

Part 1 of The Witcher Season 3 is here, and boy, did things get heated quickly. Most of the ensemble of characters from Season 2 returned – including Geralt, Ciri, Yen, and Jaskier, of course – but a plethora of new, important characters emerged as well. One of them is Keira Metz, who The Witcher books and games fans will recognize. So, who is Keira Metz?

Keira Metz is a powerful sorceress who studied at the Academy of Aretuza, making her an acquaintance of Yennefer and eventually a member of the Lodge of Sorceresses. While her role in the show wasn’t big as of yet, her role in The Witcher books and games is rather significant.

The character in Netflix’s show is portrayed by the young actress Safiyya Ingar and appeared in two episodes of The Witcher Season 3 so far. We’ll have to wait a bit more to see if her role from the games translates to the series or if her storyline will be changed dramatically. Meanwhile, let’s get to know the character, as well as the young actress portraying her.

Who is Keira Metz in ‘The Witcher’ universe?

As I’ve mentioned, Keira Metz’s role in The Witcher TV series has been minor so far, so I’ll focus on the books and the games to give you a better idea of who she is and what her role in the series is.

Keira Metz was born in Carreras and is a sorceress who studied at the Academy of Aretuze. She was also the advisor to King Foltest of Temeria – something that both Triss Merigold and Fercart did before her.

While serving as King Foltest’s advisor, Keira found out that some of her fellow sorceresses were planning to betray the Brotherhood of Sorcerers. So, Keira and several other sorceresses formed a conclave on Thanedd Island to plan a coup before the betraying mages could form a coup of their own.

She met Geralt of Rivia at the Thanedd banquet, where her acquaintance Yennefer was as well. That very same night, Keira Metz and her group planned to arrest the traitors in their sleep. Philippa Eilhart, among others, helped in the process, and so did Sigismund Dijkstra.

Keira and Radcliffe, ‘the obnoxious,’ as Yennefer called him, apprehended Francesca Findabair, but their plan fell through when Keira was overpowered and thrown out of a window. Inadvertently, she fell right onto Geralt of Rivia, who was passing by below. He helped save her and heal her injuries.

Keira later joined Philippa as the Lodge of Sorceresses was formed – something we had already seen in the show, as well. A member of the Lodge tried seducing Geralt into revealing to them the location of Ciri, but when they arrived at the location, they realized he had tricked them and that the location was deserted.

Fast forward a bit, and we meet Keira again, but she has had to go into hiding. She is looking for a lamp while Geralt is looking for Ciri, so together, they decide to explore the elven ruins where they believe both could find what they were looking for. In the ruins, Nithral attacks Geral, and Keira helps him defeat him.

One could say that Keira is an ambiguous character, somewhere between good and bad. She is, in fact, an antihero, doing bad stuff with good intentions.

Does Keira Metz die in The Witcher?

I won’t get into the details of the books, as they can be quite revealing, but I’ll leave you with this little piece of trivia from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt video game. Keira Metz can have three different endings. To get any of them, the player must play her optional questline, aka sidequest.

In the final quest, Geralt catches Keira stealing Alexander’s notes about the Catriona Plague, with the intention of going to Radovid with them as a bargain for her life. How it ends depends on the dialogues you choose.

If you let Keira go to Radovid with the notes, you’ll later find out that Radovid – as Geralt expected from the start – had her tortured, killed, and impaled as soon as he got the notes. You find her remains with Triss, who is devastated.

If you try to stop her and take the notes away, a big fight ensues, and Keira Metz ends up killed at the hands of Geralt of Rivia, who eventually burns the Catriona Plague notes.

Finally, the happiest ending that Keira Metz gets in the game is if you manage to force Keira to stay at Kaer Morhen. Geralt convinces Keira that her plan isn’t smart and that her best survival option is to find a safe haven in Kaer Morhen.

She listens, which results in her taking part in the Battle of Kaer Morhen – a huge battle that ensues against The Wild Hunt. As a result of her involvement in the battle, Lambert survives, and the pair eventually falls for one another. Instead of them both dying tragically, they both survive and escape together into the sunset to some faraway lands.

Which of these endings – if any – will Keira Metz get in the show remains to be seen.

Who is Safiyya Ingar?

Safiyya Ingar is a young, vibrant actress that most fans likely won’t recognize, as most of her work so far came as a voice actress for Harvey Voices. Safiyya gave her voice to video game characters in blockbuster games like Diablo IV and Valkyrie Elysium.

She also participated in BBC’s Doctor Who audio drama, where she voiced Valarie Lockwood. Additionally, Saffiya portrayed Shirley in the 2019 mini-series Summer of Rockets. Appearing in The Witcher is certainly the biggest exposure for Safiyya’s young career so far, but I’m sure it’s not the last.

You can learn more about Safiyya Ingar and her work on her Instagram, where she’s quite active and posts fairly frequently.
