Thor Remains Unaware That Loki Is Alive—But That Might Change in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
With the release of Loki Season 2, Loki has emerged as one of the most pivotal characters in the MCU. Having discovered what maintains the stability of his reality, Loki understands that he must make the ultimate sacrifice by taking over the throne from He Who Remains.
The Temporal Loom has been destroyed, preventing realities from being erased for deviating from the template. It appears that Loki is now sustaining the multiverse through what seems to be Yggdrasil.
Since the release of Loki Season 2, Loki hasn’t been mentioned in any subsequent projects, and Thor remains unaware that a variant of his brother is alive. The brothers’ relationship in the MCU has been complex, ranging from enemies to allies, with Loki frequently scheming behind Thor’s back.
Despite their tumultuous relationship, Thor deeply mourned Loki’s death in Avengers: Endgame when Loki was killed by Thanos while trying to buy time for Thor and the Avengers. The Loki series gave the character a significant redemption arc, leaving fans eager for Thor to meet this new and improved Loki.
Although Loki’s next appearance is uncertain, rumors suggest that Thor 5 is in development and will feature darker themes than Thor: Love and Thunder. The anticipated reunion of the brothers might take place in Avengers: Doomsday. The title hints at a major cataclysmic event, potentially involving ongoing incursions that threaten the Sacred Timeline. It’s likely that while dealing with these incursions, the Avengers—and Thor—will discover that Loki, not He Who Remains, is now holding the timeline together.
This emotional reunion could mark a new phase in Thor’s character development and serve as the final chapter in Loki’s redemption arc, proving to Thor that Loki is capable of more than just chaos. The Loki showrunners mentioned last October that Loki had always intended to reunite with Thor to complete his character development.
That’s the hope. I don’t want to — yeah. I think the the sun shining on Loki and Thor once again has always been the priority of the story we’re telling. But for that meeting to really be fulfilling, we have to get Loki to a certain place emotionally. I think that’s been the goal of these two seasons.
