Tokyo Revengers final showdown between Izana Kurokawa’s Tenjiku and Toman is underway in the anime, but while we have discussed several important fights and clashes there, we haven’t really talked a lot about the last major fight in this clash, the one between Mikey and Izana, which had several important moments. So, as you can deduce, the clash we are going to cover here is the one between Izana Kurokawa, the main villain of the arc, and Mikey Sano, his “brother,” but we’re going to focus on the moment when Izana pointed a gun at Mikey. Why did he do it, and will he shoot him in the end? Keep reading to find out!

  • Article Breakdown:
  • At one point during their fight, Izana became slower and Mikey was able to beat him, which meant that Tenjiku lost the fight against Toman. This did not seem fair to Izana.
  • In a desperate attempt to avoid defeat, Izana took a gun and pointed it at Mikey, claiming that he had nothing to lose anymore and that he was going to shoot him.
  • Although it did seem that Izana was, indeed, ready to shoot Mikey, Kakucho intervened and slapped the gun out of Izana’s hand, thereby stopping the incident from happening.

Izana’s attempt to shoot Mikey was a desperate one to avoid an inevitable loss

The fight between Izana and Mikey was the zenith of the Tenjiku vs. Toman clash. It was a truly epic fight between two excellent fighters but also two characters who shared a common past that was much deeper and more layered than the fight between their two respective gangs. Izana was known as a monstrously skilled fighter, and initially, he had a lot of success against Mikey. Although the latter would always get up after being hit by Izana, Izana delivered some truly devastating blows.

And when it seemed that Mikey would go down, Izana started to become fatigued. This was a pivotal moment in their fight. His fighting was sloppier and his movements slower, and Mikey quickly used this to his advantage, as he was able to defeat Izana. With the leader of Tenjiku down, it became apparent that Tenjiku lost this battle, which shocked everyone. But Izana being Izana and with Mikey being his opponent, he did not want to give up like that.

Although it was evident that Izana had lost, he grabbed a gun, and in a state that was akin to that of a completely broken man, he pointed the gun at Mikey and was ready to shoot him. Remembering his “siblings” and his hatred for Mikey, Izana was aware that he had nothing to lose, so he was ready to do something desperate. Luckily for everyone, Kakucho intervened by slapping the gun out of Izana’s hand, thus averting the tragedy.

Does Izana care about Mikey?

Although they were enemies in this arc, Izana and Mikey actually had a shared past. Namely, we know that Izana was Shinichiro Sano’s brother… in a way…, and since Shinichiro and Mikey are actual brothers, Izana’s “sibling” relationship with Shinichiro is the same as with Mikey, since Shinichiro and Mikey are brothers. But, unlike Shinichiro, whom Izana loved wholeheartedly and admired, he did not have a great relationship with Mikey. So… he did not care about Mikey as he cared for Emma and Shinichiro – in fact, he had a very troubled relationship with him, as he hated Mikey for seemingly “stealing” Shinichiro from him, which was the core of Izana’s and Mikey’s relationship. We are going to elaborate on that here.

Why did Izana hate Mikey?

Izana Kurokawa, who was Shinichiro, Emma, and Manjiro Sano’s adopted brother, was deeply envious of the latter and wished to kill him. This animosity stemmed from their childhood, i.e., an event that profoundly influenced Izana. Specifically, when they were younger, Izana and Shinichiro were practically ideal siblings. Shinichiro loved Izana just as much as Izana loved him, and Izana saw in Shinichiro an older brother he could look up to.

He gave him the Black Dragon’s reins as a gift one day, with Izana becoming the gang’s eighth president—but only provided he could pass them on to Shinichiro’s younger brother, Manjiro. So, because of his jealousy, he started to feel a great deal of hatred. Izana was envious of Mikey since he felt like he had replaced Shinichiro in his eyes, and Izana felt betrayed by Shinichiro. And that is the root of his hatred and jealousy towards Mikey in the series.
