Tom Hiddleston Nearly Spoiled Loki’s Fate in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Loki fans have been asking the same question ever since Tom Hiddleston was confirmed to return for Avengers: Doomsday: will the God of Mischief survive the movie? Hiddleston was recently given the chance to answer that question directly, but instead of giving fans a clear yes or no, he stopped himself before saying too much. His reaction may not confirm Loki’s fate, but it has certainly made the mystery even more interesting.
The question came up while Hiddleston was discussing his return as Loki, a character who has become famous for escaping death. Over the years, Loki has been killed, brought back, replaced by variants and even caught in complicated time-related situations. His most famous death came when Thanos killed him at the start of Avengers: Infinity War, but even that was not the end of Loki’s story. The Disney+ series Loki completely changed the character’s journey and gave him a new role in the larger Marvel story.
During the recent interview, Hiddleston was asked if Loki would die again in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor started answering before realizing he was getting dangerously close to revealing something important. “If I keep going down the path of the end of this sentence, I will find myself revealing things,” Hiddleston said before stopping himself. He then tried to clarify the question but ultimately decided it was safer not to continue.
That answer is exactly the kind of response Marvel fans have come to expect from the actor. Hiddleston has been careful when talking about Avengers: Doomsday, especially because the movie is expected to bring together a huge number of characters from across the MCU. Even a small comment could reveal something Marvel wants to keep secret until the movie reaches theaters.
Hiddleston has already confirmed one important detail, though. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor explained that Loki’s story in Avengers: Doomsday will continue from where Loki Season 2 ended. That means the events of the Disney+ series will matter when the character returns, rather than Marvel simply ignoring everything that happened to him during the show. Loki’s ending left him in an unusual position, making him one of the most important characters connected to the MCU’s complicated timeline.
The actor has also talked about how strange it was to keep his return secret for so long. For months, fans could only guess whether Loki would appear in the next Avengers movie. Hiddleston was eventually able to speak about coming back, and he has made it clear that he is excited to play the character again. After more than a decade with the role, Loki has become one of the characters most closely connected to Hiddleston’s career.
There is also a bigger question about what Loki’s future could look like after Doomsday. Hiddleston has previously suggested that he still sees more possibilities for the character, which has given fans hope that this will not be his final MCU appearance. At the same time, Marvel has never been afraid to give major characters emotional endings, so Loki’s survival should not be taken for granted.
His latest answer only adds to the speculation. If there was nothing important to hide, Hiddleston could have simply said that Loki survives or dies. Instead, he stopped himself because he felt he was getting too close to a spoiler. That does not prove Loki is going to die, but it strongly suggests that his fate plays an important role in the story.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters this December, and Loki will return alongside a massive group of MCU characters. Until then, fans will have to keep guessing whether the God of Mischief will once again find a way to survive, or whether Marvel is finally preparing a goodbye that even Loki cannot escape.
