Tom Holland and Zendaya Reveal Their Favorite Spanish Actor for the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Tom Holland and Zendaya have spent the past several days turning Madrid into the unofficial kickoff for the global press run behind ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ the fourth entry in the superhero saga that shows a more mature version of Peter Parker. The stop carried extra weight since it doubled as one of the couple’s first joint public appearances since news of their secret wedding broke earlier this year, with stylist Law Roach confirming on a red carpet that the wedding had already happened and that everyone simply missed it.
The Spanish leg of the tour packed in a lot. Holland made a stop at a fan zone in Plaza de Colón ahead of Spain’s World Cup opener against Cabo Verde, while the couple later sat down together for one of their first televised interviews since the marriage rumors started, appearing on ‘El Hormiguero’ to promote the film. Reporters on the ground leaned into playful, Spain themed questions rather than sticking to standard franchise talk.
That’s where the moment now spreading online comes in. Holland and Zendaya were asked to name a Spanish actor they would love to see step into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and their answer was quick and specific, with Rosalía called out as someone who would be great in the role.
It tracks with a pattern that defined their week in the country. At the Plaza de Colón fan event, Holland was asked who would play Spider-Man for the Spanish national football team and he named Lamine Yamal without hesitation. He also pointed to Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, who carries the nickname ‘la Araña,’ and said he would make a great Spider-Man, adding that he hoped to meet him and wished him a strong tournament.
The Rosalía pick also lines up with connections already forming between her and Zendaya’s own projects, since the singer has appeared as a guest star in the upcoming third season of ‘Euphoria,’ the HBO series Zendaya leads. That overlap makes the Marvel shoutout feel less like a random pull and more like two worlds already drifting toward each other.
As for the movie that brought them to Spain in the first place, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is set four years after ‘No Way Home,’ with an adult Peter Parker who has erased himself from the lives and memories of the people he loves. The film brings back Zendaya and Jacob Batalon alongside newcomers Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo, and it hits Spanish theaters on July 29.
Whether Rosalía ever actually suits up for Marvel is still pure speculation, but Tom Holland and Zendaya clearly aren’t ruling it out. If she did join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, what role would you want to see her play, hero, villain, or something in between.
