‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Broke a Presales Record That’s Been Untouched for Five Years
Few franchises in cinema history command the kind of raw anticipation that Spider-Man does, and Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as the friendly neighborhood web-slinger is already proving that the wait has done nothing but fuel the hunger. With the film still more than a month from its theatrical debut, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has arrived at the box office conversation in a very big way, and it hasn’t even opened yet.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, ‘Brand New Day’ picks up in the aftermath of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ with Peter Parker navigating a world that no longer remembers him. The pressure of watching his old friends move on without him sparks a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control, while a powerful villain that no one can even see threatens everything he loves. Alongside Holland, the film stars Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.
Per Deadline, ‘Brand New Day’ has posted the best first-day presales of any movie in five years and the strongest of 2026 so far. Fandango has also confirmed that the upcoming adventure has become the ticketing service’s biggest first-day ticket pre-seller of the year, surpassing ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu,’ ‘Project Hail Mary,’ and ‘The Odyssey’ as the largest traditional movie launch of the year. The sequel has even cracked Fandango’s list of top 10 all-time first-day ticket pre-sellers, making it one of the most significant advance ticketing launches in the company’s history.
The previous record holder tells its own extraordinary story. The last time a film drove presales like this was ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ which racked up an estimated $78 million in advance sales before its December 2021 release and went on to post a $260.1 million domestic opening, the second-best debut ever at the time behind only ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ While a specific number for ‘Brand New Day’ has not been shared, it is confirmed to be north of $37 million, surpassing what ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ posted after its own record-setting first day of advance ticket sales.
With the film not opening for another 40-plus days, those numbers will continue to grow, all but signaling a massive opening weekend for Holland’s fourth Spider-Man adventure. While it is too soon to share opening weekend estimates, ‘Brand New Day’ debuting with anything less than $200 million domestically would be considered a surprise. The only film that could realistically challenge it for the title of biggest film of the year is ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’
Director Destin Daniel Cretton has spoken candidly about what drew him to the project. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Cretton said of Tom Holland, “He brings so much life and charm into his performances and has that magical ability to walk the line between comedy and drama effortlessly. I was super excited to work with him, and I’m happy to say he exceeded all of my expectations.” That creative excitement is clearly resonating far beyond the set. With presales already rewriting the record books and audience anticipation at a fever pitch, the question now isn’t whether ‘Brand New Day’ will be enormous. It’s whether it can actually catch the impossible shadow that ‘No Way Home’ left behind. So what do you think: does ‘Brand New Day’ have what it takes to top one of the MCU’s most beloved entries, or is ‘No Way Home’ a once-in-a-generation lightning strike that even Peter Parker himself couldn’t repeat?
