Top 10 Ryan Reynolds Movies Ranked by Fans

Ryan Reynolds has been a Hollywood staple for years, though he’s now best known for his iconic portrayal of Deadpool—a role he seems made for.
His diverse filmography spans more than just comedies, which is why fans came together to rate all his movies. Let’s take a look at which ones made it to the top 10.
10. ‘Safe House’ (2012)
Reynolds teams up with Denzel Washington in a 2012 one-man-army action thriller. Despite the star-studded cast, the film received mixed reviews from critics, with its weakest points being the storyline and action sequences.
9. ‘Just Friends’ (2005)
Just Friends has a premise that even Deadpool would probably mock, but it’s still a decent choice if you’re into feel-good romances and holiday films. Ryan Reynolds stars alongside Amy Smart and Anna Faris, though critics agree that the movie isn’t quite as funny as you’d expect from a Reynolds comedy.
8. ‘Waiting…’ (2005)
Waiting… is my personal favorite outside of the Deadpool films, so I’m surprised it ranks so low on the list. The film is essentially about nothing, focusing on the gritty, behind-the-scenes life in a restaurant. Though it was initially panned by critics, it has since gained a cult following.
7. ‘Definitely, Maybe’ (2007)
Definitely, Maybe offers a fresh twist on the rom-com genre. In this film, Will Hayes, a Manhattan dad navigating a divorce, recounts his romantic past with three different women to his inquisitive 10-year-old daughter, Maya, who is trying to determine which one is her mother. Through his stories, both Will and Maya come to understand the complexities of love and the possibility of finding a happy ending. With its stellar reviews upon release, it’s no surprise the film made it to the top 10.
6. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ (2024)
You might be surprised to see Deadpool & Wolverine ranked so low, but there’s a silver lining despite the positive reviews. While it’s one of the better recent MCU entries, it doesn’t stand out as an exceptional film overall. The movie relies heavily on fan service, with a thin plot and numerous plot holes. Although the action is impressive and fans enjoyed the legacy characters, it offers little in the context of the larger MCU. So, this ranking isn’t entirely unexpected.
5. ‘Free Guy’ (2021)
Free Guy is another relatively recent release. In Free City, a massively multiplayer online game, NPC bank teller Guy starts to develop self-awareness after meeting Millie’s avatar, “MolotovGirl,” and breaks free from his programming to become a global sensation. As Guy learns the truth about his existence, Millie and her friend Keys strive to save the NPCs before the sequel, Free City 2, erases them. Ultimately, they preserve their creation and launch a new game where Guy reveals he was designed as a love letter to Millie, leading to a real-life romance between Millie and Keys. With its stellar reviews, it’s no surprise the movie is ranked so high.
4. ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’ (2017)
The film features Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson in a buddy-cop action comedy, but it was widely criticized for leaning heavily on tired action-comedy clichés and lacking originality. Despite the strong chemistry between Jackson and Reynolds, the movie’s formulaic plot and heavy reliance on banter kept it from rising above a mediocre experience.
3. ‘The Proposal’ (2009)
In The Proposal, Canadian editor Margaret Tate (Roberts) faces deportation and persuades her assistant, Andrew Paxton (Reynolds), to marry her for a green card, promising to make him an editor in return. They travel to Andrew’s hometown in Alaska, where Margaret begins to fall for him while connecting with his warm family, only to reveal their sham engagement during the wedding. Realizing their true feelings, Andrew chases after Margaret, confesses his love, and they decide to genuinely get engaged, much to the pleasure of a persistent immigration agent. Despite the movie’s generic plot, which I personally think doesn’t justify its high ranking, it still has its charms.
2. ‘Deadpool 2’ (2018)
Deadpool 2 demonstrated that sequels can succeed without being overly complicated, managing to be only slightly inferior to the original. Fans valued that the humor remained fresh and enjoyed the clever nods and cameos throughout. The film certainly earns its spot at number 2.
1. ‘Deadpool’ (2016)
With the release of Deadpool, it became clear that Ryan Reynolds was perfectly cast in the role. The film’s unconventional tone, edgy humor, and playful subversion of superhero tropes made it a standout and thoroughly entertaining experience, even for those who usually don’t enjoy superhero movies.
