Looks like big things are happening over at Skybound. The word going around is that Robert Kirkman and his team have sold a brand-new Transformers and G.I. Joe streaming series.

This show is said to be set in the Energon Universe—the same world that connects the Void Rivals, Transformers, and G.I. Joe comics that Skybound publishes through Image Comics. These rumors were first brought to light by Bleeding Cool.

This info comes from longtime comic insider Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool, who says he’s heard it straight from trusted industry sources. According to him, “Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment’s next big news is that they have sold a new Transformers/GI Joe shared universe animated streaming series.” He also adds that an official announcement is likely coming at San Diego Comic-Con next month.

Kirkman and Skybound have already proven they know how to handle big IP. They’re the people behind The Walking Dead and Invincible, both of which became major hits in comics and animation. So the idea of them steering the ship for this massive Hasbro crossover makes sense.

Back in 2021, Hasbro pulled the comic book licenses for Transformers and G.I. Joe from IDW Publishing. Johnston was the first to report that move, and later he revealed that Kirkman’s Skybound was planning to take over with a fresh new take.

That all turned out to be true. The new comic universe launched with Void Rivals, a sci-fi series filled with new characters, alien factions, and plenty of drama. Not long after, familiar faces from Transformers started popping up.

That was the start of the Energon Universe, a shared story world connecting Transformers, Void Rivals, and G.I. Joe. New titles like Duke and Destro followed, and soon the G.I. Joe side of things had its own full-on ongoing series. Now, with Transformers hitting its two-year anniversary this September and G.I. Joe nearing one year, the timing for a big new project couldn’t be better.

Johnston hints that this new show might be part of something even bigger. “They are promising something rather shocking, a possible end ahead of a new beginning,” he wrote. It’s not clear yet how the show will fit into the larger comic universe, but Skybound does have a habit of making big announcements at events like San Diego Comic-Con.

If it doesn’t show up there, it might pop up at New York Comic Con or even TF Con Chicago later this year. Either way, something big is coming, and fans of both franchises have reason to be excited.
