Tsukimichi: All 8 Greater Dragons from Weakest to Strongest!

Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy is an isekai fantasy web novel series written by Kei Azumi and illustrated by Mitsuaki Matsumoto. The original novel was published in 2012, and the web novel in 2013; it was adapted into manga format in 2015 (the manga is still ongoing), and the first season of the anime series premiered in 2021. With the second season premiering in January 2024, we have decided to inform you about the series a bit, focusing on the characters. This article is going to be a list of all the known Greater Dragons from the series, whom we are going to rank from weakest to strongest.

Who are the Greater Dragons in Tsukimichi?

In the world of Tsukimichi, the Greater Dragons are a type of Dragons who are said to be extremely powerful, even on par with the High Spirits, and fans of the series will know that this is certainly a high level of power. They are usually compared to natural disasters, but some of them can be benevolent and good. They, of course, take on human forms as well, as fans will know. We are now going to rank them based on how strong they are.

All the Greater Dragons ranked from weakest to strongest

8. Doma / Yamatoi

There is not much we can say about Doma, really, aside from the fact that he is seemingly the weakest of the Greater Dragons. The series hasn’t revealed too much about him, and the information we have is quite scarce, although we have enough to work with. As we have said, Doma was considered to be the weakest and most useless of the Greater Dragons, even by the other Greater Dragons, so we assume that his level of power was not that high.

He was easily killed by Sofia Bulga the first time, and as far as we know from the series, he was also afraid of Makoto. Based on all we have, we assume that he is, indeed, the weakest of the Greater Dragons, so we have placed him at the bottom of our list here. Let us now continue.

7. Azuma / Akari

Azuma is yet another Greater Dragon we know little about. We know that this Dragon’s location is the Lapis Lazuli Volcano, so we can assume that the powers that Azuma possesses are somehow related to fire or lava, but we cannot confirm this as of the time of writing due to there being little to no information about Azuma available. Sadly, this is the best we can do with what we have. Still, we know another fact that actually helped us place Azuma so low on the list.

Namely, the series has confirmed that it was killed by Sofia the first time, but not only that – Azuma was also killed a second time by Tomoe, so a character who managed to die twice in the series isn’t really that powerful, right? Especially if the killers aren’t the strongest characters in the history of the series.

6. Futsu

Now, Futsu was a truly powerful Greater Dragon, and we can really confirm that she had a lot of power. She ruled over the Land and the Soul, and her power was compared to Root’s while she was alive. Had this list been made earlier, she would have been in second place, but ever since Root defeated her, she is not as strong as she was. While she was in full power, she could use her Dragon Mother’s ability to sense and utilize the dragon pulse of the world, which was a significant source of power.

Ultimately, Futsu was, as we have said, defeated by Root, and since then, she has lost her physical form and is now the manager of Souls in the World of the Dead, so we had to take that into consideration when crafting this list.

5. Lyca / Bakufu

Lyca is a very interesting Great Dragon. She, as far as we know, lived in Meiris Lake in Limia Kingdom, but since she has been killed in the meantime, this is her former residence. She oversaw the lake and its surroundings, and while not as powerful, she seemed to have some formidable skills and abilities. Her skills were centered on water and ice, which makes sense knowing where she lived. It is also said that Lyca’s healing abilities were the best among all the Greater Dragons, which is what we considered when we were crafting this list.

But, it has to be said that Tomoe killed Lyca for working in the shadows against Makoto, and this tells us that Lyca wasn’t – despite her amazing healing skills – one of the most powerful Greater Dragons in the series, so we couldn’t give her a better position on the list.

4. Glont / Sazanami

Glont (sometimes spelled as Grount) is yet another fascinating Greater Dragon. Taking the form of a beautiful woman, Glont currently resides in the White Sand Sea region of the Gritonia Empire; her nickname is Sand Wave, which has to do with her location, as well as her powers. Sadly, not much is known about her story aside from this, but we can confirm that she definitely does deserve this place on the list. Why, you ask?

Well, the series has confirmed that Glont had the best defense out of all the Greater Dragons, which is certainly an important fact to consider. Still, it does not seem like she was the strongest, but we assume that her defensive capabilities would be enough to defeat the lower-ranked Dragons on this list. This is why we have decided to place Glont in this place, as we continue with the strongest Dragons.

3. Lancer / Mitsurugi

The villain. Lancer is undoubtedly a powerful Greater Dragon, and there is no doubt that he deserves to be in the top three. He is bent on killing the other Greater Dragons, which is why he formed an alliance with Sofia Bulga, but he is also helping the Demons in their fight against the Goddess, so he is a very layered villain in that aspect. He is a collector of powerful swords, and his powers are related to that “hobby” of his, which makes him an exceptionally powerful fighter.

Still, he does need Sofia’s assistance, which is why we have placed him in third place and not higher. Still, as we have confirmed, he is an exceptionally powerful character who deserves all the credit he can get, and being in third place in such a list is a truly noteworthy achievement. So, kudos to the villain!

2. Tomoe / Muteki “Shin”

Tomoe is undoubtedly the most popular and best-known name on this list, seeing how she is actually one of the protagonists of the series. She is loyal to the Goddess and is defending her against Lancer and his attempts, but she is also in servitude to Makoto Misumi, the protagonist of the series, so she has a very close bond with him as well. This is actually the basis of her popularity.

But, on top of that, she is an exceptionally powerful Greater Dragon, and her seemingly psionic abilities make her an exceptionally dangerous foe. As we have determined above, Tomoe has already killed a Greater Dragon, which is proof that she can take on even the most powerful of characters. In that aspect, there is no doubt that she deserves to be placed so high on this list, which is why we stand by our decision.

1. Root

Root. The most powerful Greater Dragon in the series. They can take on the form of a male or female, depending on what they want. They are actually not present in the world but are observing it from the shadows, opting to intervene however and whenever they want. They are also responsible for the foundation of the Adventurer’s Guild.

Root and Futsu were the strongest entities of their time until Root killed Futsu, which we have already explained. Their power is so high that they are considered to be on par with the Goddess in the series, and that was enough for us to give them the first place.
