‘Verity’ Star Dakota Johnson Stuns in Black as Valentino Unveils Its New ‘Vendetta’ Fragrance
Dakota Johnson brought a dark and glamorous look to Los Angeles this week as she helped Valentino Beauty celebrate the launch of its new Vendetta fragrance. The actor arrived in a custom Valentino gown that matched the moody style of the new campaign, giving the fragrance relaunch a major Hollywood moment. With its mix of old-school glamour and modern fashion, Johnson’s appearance quickly became one of the highlights of the event.
For the occasion, Johnson wore a black satin gown from Valentino’s Fall 2026 collection. The dress featured a deep neckline with delicate scalloped lace around the edge, giving the look a dramatic but elegant feel. She added a black velvet opera coat over her shoulders, creating an even more striking silhouette. Her accessories included a black alligator Valentino DeVain bag, Lisa Eisner black jade Greybull earrings, and a diamond ring from Jessica McCormack.
The outfit also fit perfectly with the mood Valentino has created around Vendetta. Instead of going for a bright or playful beauty campaign, the brand has focused on romance, mystery, and a slightly darker style. Johnson’s look felt like a natural extension of that idea, making her appearance more than just another celebrity event. She looked like she had stepped directly out of the world created for the fragrance campaign.
Johnson is one of the main faces of Vendetta, appearing alongside Alexander Skarsgård. The two actors are starring together in the campaign even though this is their first professional collaboration. The campaign was directed by Romain Gavras and photographed by Inez & Vinoodh, with Johnson and Skarsgård presented as runaway lovers caught up in an intense, rebellious romance.
Skarsgård has also spoken positively about working with Johnson. In comments reported by Vogue Scandinavia, the actor discussed the way Valentino’s campaign focuses on individuality, emotion, and connection. That idea is central to the brand’s approach to Vendetta, which is being presented as something more than just another luxury perfume release.
There is also a long history behind the name. Valentino first introduced Vendetta in 1991 under founder Valentino Garavani, meaning the new fragrance brings back a name that has been away for more than 30 years. This time, the brand is giving it a much bigger modern launch, with two fragrances designed for different audiences. Vendetta Donna was created by Dominique Ropion with Andrew Everett and combines tuberose, red orange nectar, and sandalwood. Vendetta Uomo was created by Marie Salamagne and features Peruvian ginger, Italian citrus, and a cinnamon liquor accord.
The bottles have also been designed to connect the fragrances to Valentino’s fashion identity. They feature the brand’s famous V design and pleated caps inspired by the folds found in Valentino couture. The idea is to make the packaging feel like part of the fashion house rather than simply a container for perfume.
For Valentino Beauty, the launch comes at an important time. Vendetta is the company’s first new prestige fragrance franchise in six years, giving the brand an opportunity to build another major name in its beauty business. The company is also entering a fragrance market where luxury brands are putting more attention on big campaigns, recognizable stars, and strong stories around their products.
Johnson has become an important part of that strategy. Her career has made her a familiar face in both Hollywood and fashion, and her ability to move between film premieres, fashion events, and beauty campaigns makes her a strong fit for a luxury brand like Valentino. Her appearance at the Vendetta event helps keep the campaign in the spotlight while giving fans another look at the style behind the new fragrance.
Vendetta officially became available in the United States on August 28, so the Los Angeles event served as a major celebration for the launch. Whether the new fragrance can reach the same level of recognition as its 1991 predecessor will take time to determine. For now, though, Valentino has certainly made sure its return gets attention, and Dakota Johnson’s dramatic black look gave the campaign exactly the kind of glamorous moment the brand was looking for.
