[VIDEO] Leaked D23 Teaser Trailer for ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Reveals Hoth-Like Planet and Pointy-Eared Zeb

Favreau and Filoni had completed the script for the fourth season of The Mandalorian by February 2023, but production was delayed due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes. During this time, Lucasfilm decided to focus on a Mandalorian film instead. The film was announced in January 2024 and began filming in California by August 2024.

While plot details remain scarce, the official movie description reveals: “The Mandalorian, a lone bounty hunter, is assigned to capture Grogu, a mysterious and endearing creature. Instead, he forms a deep bond with Grogu and aims to protect him from various dangers, while navigating his evolving role in a post-Empire galaxy.”

At this year’s D23 event, the movie received several significant updates, including an exclusive teaser trailer presented to the audience. The trailer has since surfaced online, and you can watch it below:

The teaser footage revealed at D23 showed Mando and Grogu touching fingers, with Mando’s voice-over highlighting his selective approach to missions. The clip also featured Babu Frick piloting a ship with Grogu, a snowy planet reminiscent of Hoth with large AT-ATs, and Zeb from Star Wars: Rebels, all of which thrilled the audience.

The film’s new logo was also unveiled. Principal photography, under the working title Thunder Alley, was originally scheduled to start in June 2024 in California and was expected to last 92 days. The production will involve around 54 cast members, 3,500 background extras, and 500 crew members. By early August, Favreau and Filoni announced that filming had already begun. The film will include the Anzellan species from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian Season 3, as well as a new version of the Razor Crest, which was destroyed in the show’s second season.
