Vincent D’Onofrio Reportedly in Talks To Appear as Kingpin in ‘Spider-Man 4′

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is gearing up for an exciting lineup of upcoming movies, despite recent challenges faced by Marvel Studios in their last few projects. Discussions about reducing project releases have circulated due to concerns about diminishing quality, but amidst this, Spider-Man continues to be the franchise that consistently draws audiences, proving to be Marvel’s most lucrative venture.
On August 20, 2019, reports surfaced about the development of the fourth Spider-Man film alongside ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ Amy Pascal confirmed on November 29, 2021, that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios were committed to producing additional Spider-Man films, with the fourth installment inaugurating a new trilogy.
Kevin Feige officially verified the active development of the fourth Spider-Man film on December 18, 2021. On December 21, 2022, Sony Pictures’ Tom Rothman affirmed that the film was still progressing.
In a February 14, 2023, interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige disclosed that the film’s storyline was finalized, and scriptwriting had commenced. However, on May 31, 2023, Amy Pascal revealed a pause in the film’s development due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, with plans to resume post-strike resolution.
Now that the strike has concluded for several months, it’s reasonable to assume that development has resumed. Recent rumors, as shared by reputable leaker Daniel Richtman, suggest plans to include Kingpin in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4,’ with talks underway for Vincent D’Onofrio to join the cast alongside other yet-to-be-disclosed members.
This comes as no shock, given that Kingpin is a beloved character with a promising trajectory in the MCU. D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Kingpin was featured in the recently unveiled ‘Echo.’ Furthermore, he is slated to reprise his role as the crime lord of New York in ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ potentially transitioning into the role of the city’s mayor, as hinted by the post-credit scene in ‘Echo.’
This corresponds with the circulating speculations that ‘Spider-Man 4’ will feature an array of street-level superheroes and villains. Conversely, just five days ago, in a Comicbook.com interview, D’Onofrio clarified that he has not received the call yet but expressed openness to the prospect of appearing in ‘Spider-Man 4.’
I think if the powers that be want that to happen then it will happen, you know? I think there certainly hasn’t been any kind of talk that it’s not gonna happen. I mean, to me that’s the direction that we should go in … But who knows? You know, you get these calls and they’re like, ‘Oh we’re doing this now.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, okay.’ You know, it’s like that.
Considering all the information, it seems certain that we’ll be witnessing more of Kingpin in the future. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments below!
