‘Vought Rising’ First Teaser Is Here, and Soldier Boy’s Origin Story Is Darker Than You’d Expect

Few television universes have leaned as hard into the mythology of corruption as ‘The Boys‘, a franchise built on the idea that every hero is just a villain with better PR. After seven years of dismantling superhero iconography on Prime Video, the main series reached its conclusion on May 20 with the finale episode “Blood and Bone.” The announcement of a follow-up came almost immediately, with Prime Video moving forward on a second spin-off titled ‘Vought Rising’.

The series was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, with Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash attached from the start as executive producers. Interest among the fanbase never cooled after that reveal, partly because both characters left behind such an outsized impression on the mothership series, and partly because the 1950s setting opened up storytelling possibilities that the original show never had space to explore. Creator Eric Kripke described the concept as “a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought,” according to Slash Film.

On Friday, Prime Video released the first teaser for the upcoming spin-off, scheduled to premiere on the streaming platform in 2027. The trailer had actually debuted slightly earlier at theatrical screenings of ‘The Boys’ series finale held on May 19, making the online drop feel like an extension of a farewell tour that never really wanted to end. The footage provides the first glimpse of Ackles’ Soldier Boy in the year 1950, complete with a new green costume worn decades before his return to action in the original series.

The teaser opens with Ben, prior to fully becoming Soldier Boy, declaring “I want to fight for the flag. I want to be a hero,” a line that lands with a particular sting given everything fans already know about who he eventually becomes. His bright-eyed aspirations sit in sharp contrast with the forced Compound V injections, blood spatter, and devilish tone that fills out the rest of the footage. The trailer closes with Clara, played by Aya Cash, delivering a line to Ben that functions almost as a mission statement for the entire prequel, telling him that a brighter future is within reach and that all they need to do is take it.

Rounding out the ensemble are Mason Dye as Bombsight, a character briefly introduced in ‘The Boys’ Season 5, alongside Will Hochman as Torpedo and Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel. The full cast also includes KiKi Layne, Jorden Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Ricky Staffieri, and Brian J. Smith, with Mark Pellegrino, Cecily Strong, Eric Johnson, and Annie Shapero appearing in recurring roles. Paul Grellong serves as showrunner, with Kripke, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg among the executive producers keeping franchise continuity intact.

The teaser arrives roughly one month after Prime Video canceled ‘Gen V’, the college-set ‘Boys’ spin-off whose stars Jaz Sinclair, London Thor, and Lizze Broadway crossed over into the final season of the main show. When ‘Vought Rising’ premieres in 2027, it will be the only active series keeping ‘The Boys’ franchise alive. Given the creative pedigree behind it and the untapped potential of that era, the pressure is both enormous and well-placed.

Whether a younger, more idealistic Soldier Boy can carry a franchise on his own is exactly the kind of question worth debating, so share your take on what ‘Vought Rising’ needs to deliver to honor everything ‘The Boys’ built.
