‘WandaVision’ Director Matt Shakman Departs ‘Star Trek 4’ to Direct ‘Fantastic Four’ for Marvel
Ever since Jon Watts departed from directing the Fantastic Four reboot for Marvel Studios, the fans were wondering who’s going to take over, and recent reports have said that Matt Shakman, who directed all episodes of Marvel Studios’ WandaVision is in talks to helm the movie. However, if Shakman is going to direct Fantastic Four, he needed to drop the upcoming Star Trek 4 which he was previously attached to direct for Paramount.
Fantastic Four reboot was announced in 2020 with Jon Watts (Spider-Man Home trilogy) set to direct. Shortly after finishing Spider-Man: No Way Home, Watts announced he will no longer direct the upcoming reboot of the Fantastic Four, and Kevin Feige announced last month that the reboot will be released on November 8, 2024, although no new director or cast members were revealed. Recently, Deadline reported that Matt Shakman is set to take over the project.
On the other side, Paramount Pictures announced that the Star Trek movie franchise will continue with the fourth installment which is set to be released on December 23, 2023, although we kinda doubt it will stay on that date after DC delayed Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to December 25, 2023. Shakman was attached to direct the movie, but now he left the project and it remains to be seen who will be hired to take over. J.J. Abrams directed the first two movies of the Star Trek reboot franchise, and Justin Lin directed the third one in 2016.
Disney and Marvel Studios will have another huge presentation at D23 Expo next month. Although it wasn’t confirmed, the fans are expecting that the cast members for the upcoming reboot should be announced, and if these reports are true, Shakman could be officially confirmed as the new director of Fantastic Four as well.
Set as the first installment of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Fantastic Four is set to be released on November 8, 2024!
