One of the biggest issues that have been making rounds all over the internet today is the defamation suit that Johnny Depp instituted against his ex-wife Amber Heard, who is also one of the stars of the Aquaman movie franchise. There have been a lot of different things said about Heard during the trial, as fans are now flocking to Depp’s side in the wake of the testimonies given by both parties. This has caused rumors about Amber Heard getting released from her contract in Aquaman 2. But was Amber Heard really fired from her role as Mera in Aquaman?
Amber Heard claims that she had originally been released from her contract in Aquaman 2, but she fought hard for her role to the point that she was reinstated. However, after she was reinstated as Mera, Amber Heard’s role in the upcoming Aquaman 2 movie was severely reduced.
The fact that Amber Heard’s role was decreased in the Aquaman 2 movie came as a shock to different fans of the film franchise, considering that she had a very important role in the first movie. That said, we don’t know for certain how decreased her role is, but we know for a fact that DC Films has been tuning in to what has been happening in the trial between Depp and Heard.
Was Amber Heard Released From Aquaman 2
Amber Heard has been an actress for over a decade and a half, as she has been featured in different films throughout her entire career. However, it was only when she was chosen to play the role of Mera in Justice League and Aquaman that she was able to earn a leading role in a big-budget blockbuster film that was supposed to change her career for the better. Of course, it appeared that it wasn’t her role in Aquaman that changed her life.
After Amber Heard published an essay wherein she claimed that she was the victim of domestic abuse, her ex-husband Johnny Depp fired back at her by instituting a $50-million defamation suit against her due to the fact that he had lost a lot of different roles after he had been marked as an abusive husband. This led to a high-profile trial that the entire world has been tuning into because of Depp’s status as one of the most recognizable talents in the film industry.
Going back to Amber Heard’s leading lady role of Mera in Aquaman, fans have been petitioning for her removal from the upcoming sequel due to the circumstances surrounding her case with Johnny Depp, who had released evidence that disputes her claims of being a victim of abuse during the subsistence of their marriage. In that regard, was Amber Heard released from her role as Mera in the upcoming Aquaman 2 movie?
Amber Heard, as she gave her testimony during the trial, claimed that she was actually released by DC Films from her Aquaman contract due to the backlash surrounding her case with Johnny Depp. However, she also claimed that she fought hard to keep her job with DC Films as she was eventually reinstated in her role as Mera in the Aquaman movies.
In that regard, we don’t know for certain whether or not she was really released from her contract with Aquaman 2 because that was only her testimony. Nevertheless, that doesn’t matter anymore because she is still going to continue her role as Mera in the upcoming movie. And yes, she gets to keep her job amidst all of the different petitions that fans have instituted to have her removed from the movie, following the different evidence and testimonies given by Johnny Depp during the trial.
Why Was Amber Heard Released From Contract?
It was never really clear why DC Films originally wanted to remove Amber Heard from her role as Mera in Aquaman 2 because this is something that only came from Amber Heard herself and not from DC Film. However, we do believe that it has something to do with the fact that DC Films just didn’t feel like she was fit for the role.
Of course, we also believe that the ongoing case between her and Johnny Depp had something to do with her rumored release from Aquaman 2 because everyone knows that movie producers and filmmakers don’t want to associate themselves with actors who have bad reputations due to how disastrous it is to market a movie with an actor that no one likes.
That said, the reason why she was almost released from her contract could be tied to a combination of her poor portrayal of Mera and the public outrage surrounding her ongoing issues and case with Johnny Depp.
Will Amber Heard Still Be In Aquaman 2?
Considering that Amber Heard got to keep her job after she claimed that she fought hard for it, following her rumored release from Aquaman 2, she will still be in Aquaman 2. However, while she did get to keep her job, DC Films decided that she be given a decreased role in the upcoming Aquaman sequel.
Now, this is a surprise to a lot of people, considering that Amber Heard was the leading lady in the first Aquaman movie. Getting a role that’s smaller than her original part in the series is quite surprising because of how it could possibly change the course of the entire film. Regardless of what critics had to say about Amber Heard’s acting in the first movie, it was still clear that Aquaman was a box office hit. As such, we don’t know how her decreased role will affect the overall quality of the upcoming movie.
How Reduced Will Amber Heard’s Role Be In Aquaman 2?
As mentioned, Amber Heard will have a decreased role in the upcoming Aquaman 2 movie. She will still keep her role as Mera, but she will have a smaller part in the film. But how decreased will her role be in Aquaman 2?
We don’t really know how much DC Films took away from Amber Heard in her role, but we do know that she didn’t like the fact that she had some of her lines and scenes removed from the upcoming Aquaman 2 movie. In the trial, she claimed:
“I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving any spoiler away, two characters fighting with one another, and they basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch.”
To that end, she is disappointed by the fact that she no longer has an important role in the upcoming Aquaman sequel because of the fact that plenty of scenes and lines were removed. So, in a way, DC Films still allowed her to keep her job but to a point where she became a watered-down version of the Mera in the first film.
Why Was Amber Heard’s Role Decreased In Aquaman 2?
Of course, the decision to decrease Amber Heard’s role in Aquaman 2 wasn’t very easy on the part of DC Films, considering that they had probably already worked on the script of the movie way before the entire mess with Johnny Depp exploded into uncontrollable proportions. But why was her role decreased in Aquaman 2?
Walter Hamada, the chief of DC Films, testified in the defamation lawsuit and said that Amber Heard’s role was reduced because they believed that she didn’t have a lot of chemistry with Jason Momoa’s Aquaman character, who is undoubtedly the star of the movie and is the one who the entire film is anchored on.
“They didn’t have a lot of chemistry together,” Hamada said. “The reality is it’s not uncommon on movies for two leads to not have chemistry, and it’s sort of movie magic and editorial—the ability to put performances with the magic of a great score and how you put the pieces together, you can fabricate that chemistry. At the end of the day, when you watch the movie, it looks like they have great chemistry. But I just know that through the course of postproduction, it took a lot of effort to get there. Sometimes you just put characters together on the screen, and they work. It’s like what makes a movie star a movie star. You know it when you see it. The chemistry wasn’t there. This one was more difficult because of the lack of chemistry between the two.”
As claimed by Hamada, he and the other execs felt that Jason Momoa and Amber Heard just didn’t go well together. That was something that a lot of fans didn’t really notice in the first movie, but it might become an issue as the franchise moves along.
Of course, there is also the possibility that this is merely a cover-up excuse on the part of DC Films because they didn’t want to directly say that they reduced Heard’s role in Aquaman because of the public backlash surrounding her case with Johnny Depp. After all, the movie execs wanted to stay as civil as possible to make sure that Aquaman 2 doesn’t become a PR nightmare for them in the long run.
