What Did Rio Vidal Do That Left Her With a Permanent “Scar”? Here’s Our Theory
The fourth episode of Agatha All Along just dropped, featuring the coven facing the Trial by Fire. With the death of their original Green Witch, Sharon, Rio Vidal steps in to join them.
Thanks to a Marvel merch leak, we now know that Rio Vidal isn’t just a Green Witch—she’s also revealed to be Lady Death.
Hints of Rio Vidal’s true identity as Lady Death have been scattered throughout the fourth episode of Agatha All Along. One major clue is the growing tension between Rio and Agatha, with Rio seemingly destined to kill Agatha by the series’ end. Another key moment occurs when Agatha pleads with Rio not to take Teen’s life while he’s gravely injured.
It’s been speculated that Agatha may have made a deal with Rio or some other dark entity, and now Rio has come to collect. By the episode’s conclusion, we learn that whatever happened between Agatha and Death in the past deeply affected Rio, leaving her emotionally scarred.
After Teen recovers from his life-threatening glass injury, thanks to Jennifer’s healing powers, the witches gather around a fire to relax and share their battle scars. Agatha reveals that her long elbow scar came from an encounter with the Daughters of Liberty, confirming their existence in the MCU.
Then, in a cryptic twist, Rio decides to share the story of her own scar, hinting at the pain and mystery behind her past actions.
Rio: I’ve got a scar. […] A long time ago, I loved someone. And I had to do something that I did not wanna do, even though it was my job. And it hurt them. She is my scar.
Based on Rio’s revelations and her intimate knowledge of both Agatha’s past and her son, it’s likely that Rio was the one who “reaped” Agatha’s son, Nicholas Scratch. This suggests that Agatha didn’t willingly sacrifice her son for the Darkhold but that something tragic befell Nicholas, with Rio responsible for his death, leading to their estranged relationship due to the emotional toll it took on both.
It’s also possible that Agatha made a deal with Mephisto or another dark entity to spare her son’s life, and now Rio has returned to collect. While the specifics remain unclear, whatever happened shattered their relationship and continues to haunt Agatha, as she is frequently reminded of her son.
There’s a theory that Nicholas might have been brought back to life in the form of Agatha’s pet rabbit, meaning he’s only “technically” alive while Agatha still owes a significant debt. This aligns with the common trope of devilish deals that never truly deliver what was promised. How Teen fits into all of this is yet to be revealed, though a recent merch leak suggests he is Wiccan, Wanda’s reincarnated son.
