Of course, every new Pokémon game adds new features to the overall experience so that not all Pokémon games are simply copies of one another. As fans all over the world are waiting for the upcoming release of the newest Pokémon games in the form of Scarlet and Violet, the Pokémon Company has just released new details through the Pokémon Presents live event that happened on August 3, 2022. In that live event, there were plenty of details that were revealed so that fans all over the world could have something to look out for in the upcoming games that will only add to the overall lore of the Pokémon world.

One of the most interesting features that were revealed in the Pokémon Presents event for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is Terastallization, which happens due to the Terastal Phenomenon that is exclusive to the Paldea region of the game. But what exactly is Terastallization in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

The Terastal Phenomenon allows you to Terastallize your Pokémon, which is basically when you give them new crystal-like forms in the middle of a battle. This allows them to change their appearances while also making them stronger and granting them new attacks. As such, Terastallization in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is basically something that we have seen before in the past but is quite unique.

What we mean to say is that it is something that’s similar to the Mega Evolution and the Dynamax/Gigantamax features that we saw in the past. However, the best thing about Terastallization is the fact that all Pokémon are capable of it, unlike Mega Evolution, which was reserved for select Pokémon. Of course, while every Pokémon could Dynamax in Sword and Shield, not all of them could Gigantamax.

In that regard, all Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet are capable of Terastallization, which will grant them new forms and even new abilities. And the best part is that there will be some Pokémon that will change their type when you Terastallize them.

What Are Tera Types In Pokémon Scarlet And Violet?

As mentioned, there are some Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that have the ability to change their types whenever you Terastallize them. However, the type they will change into will depend on their Tera types. So, what exactly are Tera types in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

As of this writing, we don’t have a lot of information regarding what Tera types are but what we do know is that every Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet have its own Tera types, depending on their species and rarity. There will be certain Pokémon that will have multiple Tera types so that they will change into those types whenever they Terastallize.

For example, Eevee is normally a normal-type Pokémon. It can be presumed that a common Eevee in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will Terastalyze to retain its usual normal typing. However, there will be some variants of Eevee that are still normal in terms of their regular type but will have different Tera types in the sense that they will change their types whenever they Terastallize. As such, some variants of Eevee will change into water, fire, electric, etc. types depending on their Tera types.

It can be presumed that almost all of the Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet have varying Tera types, as we saw a Pikachu that had a flying Tera type in the Pokémon Presents event. This allows you to mix and match your Pokémon team depending on the different Tera types that you have so that you can have a more balanced and well-rounded team that can cover each other’s weaknesses whenever they Terastallize.

What Are Tera Raids In Pokémon Scarlet And Violet?

c/o the Pokémon Company

Of course, there are still multiplayer events that will allow you to enjoy Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in a unique way. This comes in the form of the Tera Raids that are akin to the Max Raids that we saw in Pokémon Sword and Shield. But what exactly are Tera Raids in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Tera Raids are events that will allow you to team up with certain people in multiplayer fashion so that you can take on Pokémon with rare Tera types. It is similar to the Max Raids in Sword and Shield, wherein you take on certain Pokémon while they are in their own Dynamax/Gigantamax forms.

The unique part about Tera Raids is the fact that you can make decisions without having to wait on your teammates to decide what they want to do. This is the biggest change from the Max Raid battles that tend to take too long to finish because you have to wait for your turn after your teammates are done with their own turns. Of course, like Max Raid battles, you are allowed to capture the Pokémon at the conclusion of a Tera Raid so that you can add more Pokémon with different Tera types to your roster.
