There were a lot of things that Joel and Ellie experienced in episode 4 of The Last of Us as they were on their way to Wyoming to go looking for Tommy and the Fireflies. Their journey took them to a detour to Kansas City, which had gotten overrun by normal people after they successfully rebelled against FEDRA. In the end, while Joel and Ellie were resting, they were approached by a duo of characters, who were supposedly Henry and Sam. So, who are Henry and Sam in The Last of Us?

Henry and Sam are a pair of brothers who are on the run from Kathleen and the other people in Kansas City. Henry is much older than Sam as the age gap between them is quite apparent. There is a good chance that they did something to Kathleen as she is hellbent on looking for them.

One of the things that we know from the video game version of The Last of Us is that Henry and Sam have a pretty tragic story. In that regard, there are a lot of things to expect from what is to come to this pair of brothers as it is likely that their story will be just as tragic in the series as it is in the video game. Now, let’s look at what we know about Henry and Sam.

Who Are Henry And Sam?

Episode 4 of The Last of Us focused more on the journey of Joel and Ellie after they gathered supplies from the house of Bill and Frank and took his truck so that they could make a long journey to the west. They were supposed to go to Wyoming, which was supposedly the last place that Tommy, Joel’s brother, was reportedly heard from. And the fact that Tommy used to be with the Fireflies made him important, as Joel could use whatever information he had to take Ellie to the Fireflies.

Of course, the journey was long, and it took Joel and Ellie to Wyoming, which had become a city with no semblance of order because the common people had taken over it. That means that FEDRA was no longer in charge due to the fact that the people rebelled against them. And Joel and Ellie ended up getting attacked by one of the people because he thought that they were sent by FEDRA.

After Joel and Ellie killed their assailant, the scene moved over to a woman named Kathleen, who was interrogating an elderly doctor. Kathleen seems to be the leader of the people that rebelled against FEDRA in Kansas City. During her interrogation of the doctor, she was clearly hellbent on finding someone named Henry, as she believed that the doctor knew where he could be found.

In the middle of her interrogation, one of her men approached her to tell her what happened to the man that Joel and Ellie killed. This led Kathleen to think that he was killed by someone that FEDRA sent over to them due to the possibility of Henry telling FEDRA what had happened in Kansas City. As such, Kathleen summarily killed the doctor, who she believed was a collaborator with FEDRA.

Meanwhile, Joel and Ellie were able to find a safe place to hide while Kathleen’s men were scrambling around the city to look for Henry and the ones responsible for the death of one of their own. But while Joel and Ellie were sleeping, they were surprised by a man who was likely to be Henry. Together with Henry was a young boy, likely to be Sam. So, who are Henry and Sam?

Henry and Sam are a pair of brothers that survived the events of The Last of Us. While Henry is already an adult that could be in the middle of his 20s, Sam is a much younger boy as it is clear that the age gap between them is huge. It is likely that Henry was born before the Cordyceps outbreak, while Sam was born in the middle of the pandemic.

At this point in the series, we don’t know much about Henry and Sam because their story is yet to be told. However, based on what we know from the game, we do know that Henry and Sam are survivors that are constantly on the run and were some of the allies that Joel and Ellie met along the way when they were making their escape from one of the cities that they went through.

In that regard, it is likely that the story involving Henry and Sam is similar to their story in the video game but with a difference. And the difference lies in the fact that Kathleen, a new character never in the games, is hellbent on looking for Henry and Sam.

Why Are Henry And Sam So Important?

As mentioned, Henry and Sam are so important to Kathleen as she is willing to kill people to know where they are hiding. Meanwhile, it was clear that Kathleen and the other militants were searching high and low for them. So, why are Henry and Sam so important?

We can make the assumption that Henry and Sam are so important due to the fact that they probably did something to upset Kathleen. In her interrogation of the doctor, Kathleen wanted to know more about the other collaborators as she hated them for working with FEDRA to snuff out the ones resisting the government.

That means there is a good chance that Henry was a collaborator and working with FEDRA before Kathleen and her men overthrew them. But because she was hellbent on finding Henry and Sam, there is a good chance that Henry was a different kind of collaborator, as this seems to be something personal to Kathleen. Meanwhile, due to the fact that he is just a little kid, Sam was likely just dragged along in this entire mess involving Henry.

Of course, Henry and Sam were important in the game because they were some of the first true allies of Joel and Ellie. Sam was also one of Ellie’s first friends in the larger storyline of The Last of Us. His death in the game also profoundly affected Ellie. As such, it is likely that Sam will have a similar effect on Ellie in HBO’s The Last of Us.
