When we talked about who is stronger – Dumbledore or Grindelwald, we concluded that it is definitely Albus Dumbledore, after all, because good is the one who always wins. But, this is not the only reason. There are other circumstances why this is so.
Dumbledore is wiser and stronger than Voldemort in every way, from magic and wisdom, to good heart.
Keep reading to find out more about their powers, as well as their relationship from the moment they’ve met.
Who is Dumbledore – the man hiding behind a white beard and glasses?
If you’re a big fan of the Harry Potter series, then you know who we’re talking about. But do you know his full name? No worries, we will remind you.
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore was the son of the Muggle-born witch Kendra Dumbledore and the British wizard Percival Dumbledore. He was born in the wizarding village of Mould-on-the-Wold.
The early years of his life were marked by tragedy when his younger sister, Ariana Dumbledore, was attacked by a group of Muggle boys, who saw her performing magic.
Because of the fact that Ariana was left mentally and emotionally scarred by the tragic event, Percival Dumbledore went in search of his own justice, seeking revenge. He found the Muggle boys and attacked them, so he was sentenced to Azkaban where he later died.
After her husband’s death, Kendra Dumbledore moved with her family to the village of Godric’s Hollow.
Young Albus Dumbledore began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, as a member of the Gryffindor House. His first year was marked with his father’s crime, so students believe he was just like him, hating Muggles.
Despite these circumstances, Dumbledore has studied very hard and soon became an excellent student, especially in Charms and Transfiguration.
A gifted student then became the Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, later the Transfiguration Professor, and finally at the end the Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Who is Voldemort – Meeting Tom Riddle
Because of one of his tasks – recruiting the students, as the future Professor of Transfiguration, he came to the Wool’s orphanage with the decision to offer an 11-year-old Tom Riddle a place at Hogwarts. Tom immediately accepted the offer.
Dumbledore was not charmed by Tom’s natural charisma, like the other professors of Hogwarts. On the contrary, he became immediately suspicious of his obvious instincts for cruelty and domination. That was the reason, Riddle came to despise and fear Dumbledore which remained till Dumbledore’s death.
That was the time Tom Riddle became the Dark Lord or simply Lord Voldemort.
Who is More Powerful – Dumbledore or Voldemort?
Dumbledore’s power over Voldemort was primarily in his wisdom. He built his reputation as the world’s greatest wizard while Riddle was still growing up, so he could always predict his moves and possible mistakes in advance.
Voldemort was always ready for anything, most often evil, because of his inhumanity and destructive power, as an individual and as a leader, which always made him weaker and less valuable than Dumbledore.
Dumbledore had always shown great magical abilities. He was an expert at nonverbal and wandless spells and also famous as an alchemist. We will not forget his astonishing skills as the Occlumency and Legilimency. He was able to peer deep inside people’s minds and exactly know what they were thinking at the moment, and vice versa – keeping anyone from accessing his own mind.
He was also good at predicting the future. Using fire, water spells, creating bright light at the tip of his wand, the ability to transfigure and alter animals, people, and objects, the ability to understand multiple languages of the wizarding world, including the mysterious Parseltongue and many others, make him unrivaled the best wizard of all the time.
On the other hand, Voldemort had the power to move objects with his mind, communicate with animals controlling them, and inflict harm on those who opposed him. His skills were up to no good at all and we picked up five of them for which he was known the most.
Unsupported flight – “Voldemort was flying like smoke on the wind, without a broomstick or thestral to hold him.”
Legilimency – it is the art of magically navigating through someone’s mind and allows you to see into people’s minds and read their thoughts. Using this skill he could almost always tell when the person is lying and what are you thinking before you use any word.
Avada Kedavra is also known as the killing curse which was Voldemort’s signature spell in every encounter. It is one of the three unforgivable curses (the other two are Cruciatus Curse and Imperius Curse). This powerful spell causes instantaneous and painless death, without causing any injury to the body.
Fiendfyre – it is the curse that produces enchanted flames of immense size and heat that were capable of destroying nearly anything. It was also one of the few known substances capable of destroying Horcruxes.
The ability to create Horcruxes is the most powerful skill of the Dark Lord and the most terrible of all dark magic as well. These are the objects in which he has hidden fragments of his soul to become immortal. The interesting thing is they can only be created after committing murder.
Although we could say they are just as powerful as leaders, the advantage is still on Dumbledore’s side. Voldemort feared Dumbledore which proves that he did not attack Hogwarts in his presence.
From his early youth, Voldemort as Tom Riddle was an extremely talented wizard, but he did not have what Dumbledore had – the power of trust and love. Voldemort feared death which cannot be said of Dumbledore who sacrificed his life for Harry Potter and the whole wizarding world.
Harry Potter has returned the favor – naming his son after this remarkable man and wizard.
So we will conclude that no one becomes big or strong without love, sacrifice, and trust. So, there is no doubt, once again, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore was the most powerful wizard of all time.
