Who Will Goblin Slayer End Up With? Discussing the Most Unlikely of Ships!
Ships are popular in the world of anime, and no series is spared from fans shipping their favorite characters together. Some fan couplings have more sense, and some have less, but you can usually find a variety of combinations, regardless of the series. As far as GOBLIN SLAYER! is concerned, the series certainly has some shipping potential. Still, the principal protagonist, the quiet and overly aggressive Goblin Slayer, is a very unlikely shipping candidate. And that is exactly why we will use this article to tell you whom he might end up within the series.
Goblin Slayer is a peculiar character in every way you can imagine
Goblin Slayer is the protagonist of the series. He is an expert silver-rank adventurer who is only interested in exterminating goblins, to the point that the Guild has given him a Specialist rating due to the enormous amount of goblins he has killed and his work in studying their biology and habits. The jobs he undertakes involve only goblins, although he is often forced to face other creatures as well when the goblins have allied themselves with them.
His most characteristic trait is his obsession with hunting down goblins, which was born after witnessing the massacre of his village, of which he was the only survivor by hiding under a floorboard but thus having to watch while the goblins tortured and killed his older sister.
After being orphaned, the uncle of his childhood friend (whose name is unknown and is simply called Cow Girl) took him in and used his wages to pay the rent. While he is open to the idea that there are good goblins somewhere in the world, he believes that until proven otherwise the only ones who are good goblins are those who remain holed up, never giving the adventurers reason to hunt them down.
His equipment appears lacking for an adventurer of his rank. Still, a keen eye can notice how perfect it is for his missions: light armor with a characteristic helmet for good protection without slowing down his agility too much, a small circular shield, and a short sword necessary for fighting in goblin dens that are too narrow to use a normal sword. On top of that, the dirt that covers all his equipment hides his true scent, which otherwise the goblins would be able to perceive.
While he is skilled in melee, his fighting style relies more on being pragmatic and smart rather than simple combat, so he often prefers setting traps, using the enemy’s weapons, and anything that can give him an advantage. Even his companions notice how much he can use lateral thinking: to defeat his enemies, he exploits the peculiarities of the surrounding environment and the resources at his disposal to obtain unthinkable results, as when he uses the miracles of the Priestess, in theory, defensive, as support to attack more effectively, or when transforming a teleportation scroll into a weapon.
Even if throughout the story, it is hinted that Goblin Slayer’s abilities are not at all extraordinary, in the sense that they are all the result of experience and constant training, without any particular talent (he himself admits that facing a horde of goblins would be too much even for him), it is at the same time clarified that he is still a sort of anomaly, given that the divinities themselves have often noticed how much his actions escape their machinations: emblematic is the fact that, years before, the gods decided to make tragic the childhood of their future champion, Heroine, by having the orphanage where she lived destroyed.
But Goblin Slayer, who was still a young adventurer then, intervened and saved her and the rest of the orphanage without the gods being able to foresee or prevent it. His face is never shown; the few who have managed to see his face describe him as a surprisingly good-looking boy but visibly scarred by the life he leads. When the back of his torso is shown, it is seen as being covered in numerous scars, while in flashbacks to his childhood, it is possible to observe the ash-blonde color of his hair.
Goblin Slayer’s potential ships
As you can see, Goblin Slayer is not a particularly romantic fellow. He is focused on killing goblins, and that is pretty much everything he knows how to do. And while any hint of romance is non-existent in the series (basically), there are two potential ships we can discuss:
Cow Girl
Cow Girl is a childhood friend of the Goblin Slayer; he was staying with her when he was orphaned. They are very close, although nothing happens between them, and she seems to care for him significantly. Burglar even hinted that the two of them shared something between them, but Cow Girl scolded him for that, confirming that it was just an insinuation.
Priestess
The Priestess is Goblin Slayer’s companion, and while she is loyal to him and accompanies him on his adventures, it doesn’t seem likely that the two of them would end up being a couple. They just seem too different for that.
