Why Did Makee Allow Herself to Get Caught by the UNSC?
Episode 5 of Halo proved to be the most action-packed episode of the series at this point because it allowed us to see a fight between the UNSC and the Covenant over at Eridanus II. While the Covenant was successful in their mission on that planet, we did see Makee going down to the planet on the pod and allowing herself to get captured. So, why did Makee allow herself to get caught by the UNSC at the end of episode 5 of Halo?
Makee got herself caught by the UNSC at the end of episode 5 of Halo because she needed to infiltrate the UNSC to acquire the smaller artifact or keystone over at Reach. The Covenant may have already acquired the larger keystone at Eridanus II, but they still need the smaller one to activate it.
The Halo TV series is set to become bigger in terms of the implications of the different events happening. Of course, Makee is also involved in the larger story of the series, especially when you factor in her mission of recovering all of the keystones. In that regard, let’s look at the true reason why Makee allowed herself to get caught by the UNSC at the end of episode 5 of Halo.
Why Did Makee Allow Herself To Get Caught In Episode 5 Of Halo?
The latest episode of Halo allowed us to see a lot of action when there was a battle between UNSC forces and the Covenant near the end. This battle came about as a direct result of Master Chief’s actions as the Covenant was able to pinpoint their location and find the larger artifact that the UNSC had discovered on the planet called Eridanus II.
Remember that, in episode 4, Master Chief and Dr. Halsey were able to discover a larger artifact that seemed to be something that needed to be used in conjunction with the smaller artifact found in Madrigal. Meanwhile, Makee and the Covenant were on a mission to find the smaller artifact that she felt got activated on Madrigal.
In that regard, during the events of episode 5, Makee was investigating Madrigal to find traces of the artifact so that she could trace its location. Meanwhile, the UNSC brought forces over at Eridanus II to excavate the larger artifact and bring it back to Reach. However, Master Chief touched the artifact to learn more about his past and how Dr. Halsey fits in all of it.
When Master Chief touched the artifact, Makee felt its energy over at Madrigal. As such, she and the Covenant were able to pinpoint the location of the UNSC over at Eridanus II. This led to a battle between the UNSC and the Covenant as the Spartans were tasked to get the artifact over to Halsey’s location so that they could bring it back to Reach.
But in the middle of trying to get the artifact to Halsey, Master Chief trotted back so that he could save Kai-125 from certain death. This proved to be what ultimately allowed the Covenant to take hold of the artifact as the Spartans needed Chief with them, but he chose to save Kai instead. As such, the Covenant was able to retrieve the larger artifact when a Brute prevented Master Chief from acquiring it.
Still, there was an interesting scene at the end of the episode even as the Covenant had retreated from the scenes. Makee, the Blessed One, dropped down on Eridanus II on a pod and was crying on the ground. So, why did Makee allow herself to get caught by the UNSC?
Well, the simple reason why Makee allowed herself to get caught by the UNSC is the fact that she needed to infiltrate the UNSC as a human refugee and not as a member of the Covenant. Even if the Covenant had already acquired the larger artifact, there was still a need for them to acquire the smaller one.
This is where Makee comes in as the only Covenant member that could possibly get close enough to the UNSC to acquire the smaller artifact. As such, she allowed herself to get caught so that the UNSC would bring her back to Reach, where the smaller artifact was being kept.
What Is Makee’s Mission In Halo?
As important as Makee is to the Covenant as the Blessed One, remember that she took it upon herself back in the earlier episodes to take on a mission that was very important to the Covenant. But what exactly is Makee’s mission?
Makee’s mission is to actually retrieve the smaller artifact that the Covenant found in Madrigal but was recovered by the UNSC during the skirmish between the Elites and the Spartans over at that planet. Her mission is tied to the fact that the Covenant needed the artifacts to activate some sort of a weapon that could turn the tide over to their side in the war against the UNSC.
So, the reason why Makee volunteered herself to take on this mission is the fact that she is the only human in the Covenant. She was the only person that could possibly infiltrate the UNSC so that she could get close enough to the artifact and recover it for the Covenant. Of course, there’s also something personal in this mission of hers.
It was shown in the earlier episodes that Makee used to live with humans in a UNSC colony somewhere in the galaxy. However, she and her fellow humans were treated harshly by the UNSC and were seemingly slaves that were forced to work. The Covenant attacked the colony and “saved” Makee from the UNSC. In that regard, her experience with the UNSC allowed Makee to develop a hatred for them, and that’s why she is loyal enough to the Covenant to take on a mission to infiltrate the UNSC.
Even though the Covenant had already acquired the larger artifact in Eridanus II, it was still important for them to acquire the smaller one. It was hinted in episode 3 by Master Chief that the artifacts are two parts of the same whole, and that means that Makee needed to acquire the smaller artifact to activate the larger one.
