Will the Upcoming DC Studios Film ‘Dynamic Duo’ Be Part of the DCU?

DC Studios has a variety of projects in development. James Gunn is building a new cinematic universe called the DCU, which officially kicks off with Creature Commandos and will make a bigger impact with Superman in 2025.

At the same time, Matt Reeves is broadening his Batman Epic Crime Saga, which is off to a solid start thanks to the release of The Penguin, which has garnered rave reviews from both critics and audiences.

An animated movie focusing on two well-known Robins has recently been announced, marking a collaborative effort between James Gunn and Matt Reeves.

Titled Dynamic Duo and written by Matthew Aldrich, the film is being produced by a new animation studio called Swaybox. Directed by Arthur Mintz, it explores the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, both known as the Robins. Although the movie is produced by Reeves and Gunn, it’s unclear whether it will be part of their respective cinematic universes.

Initial reports suggest that Dynamic Duo is not linked to Matt Reeves’ Batman Epic Crime Saga, but there has been no official statement regarding its connection to the DCU.

DCU has a live-action film in the works titled The Brave and the Bold, featuring Bruce Wayne/Batman and Damian Wayne/Robin, directed by Andy Muschietti. Additionally, there are rumors of a live-action Teen Titans movie written by Ana Nogueira that may include at least one of the Robins.

If Dynamic Duo is incorporated into the DCU, it would likely need to serve as a prequel. This film could potentially explore the origin stories of the two Robins, especially since Damian Wayne is expected to be the primary Robin in the DCU continuity.

While there is a possibility that the movie might be linked to the DCU, this hasn’t been confirmed, and it seems unlikely, as it could confuse fans. The DCU currently appears somewhat disjointed, introducing multiple Robins without any projects focused on major characters like Wonder Woman or Aquaman. Although Paradise Lost is presumably still in development, there are no updates available, and it will be set centuries before Wonder Woman’s birth.

Overall, Dynamic Duo is likely to be part of the Elseworlds stories rather than canon to the DCU.
