‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 Episode Titles and Release Schedule Are Here, and the Clues Are All There

Few animated series in recent memory have inspired the level of devotion that ‘X-Men ’97’ has managed to cultivate since it first landed on Disney+ in 2024. The revival arrived as a continuation of the beloved original 1990s run, earning near-universal acclaim from both critics and fans across its debut season of ten episodes. With a cliffhanger finale that left the team scattered across the timestream, anticipation for what comes next has been building steadily ever since.

The second season centers on the X-Men being scattered throughout time, from Ancient Egypt to the far future, as they struggle to find their way back to the 1990s in order to stop Apocalypse. Meanwhile, back in the present, new strains of mutant intolerance are rising in the wake of the X-Men’s absence. The scope alone signals that the creative team is swinging far bigger this time around.

Now, with the premiere just days away, Marvel has officially dropped the full episode title list and release schedule for ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2, and the names alone are doing heavy storytelling work. After a three-episode premiere on July 1 that kicks things off with “Days of Past Future,” “A Force to Be Reckoned With,” and “Rise of Apocalypse Part I,” the season will roll out weekly through August 12, wrapping with a finale titled “Survival of the Fittest.” Unlike the first season’s ten episodes, this run delivers nine over the course of seven weeks.

Several of those titles are already setting fan forums alight with theories. Episodes three and four form a two-part arc under the “Rise of Apocalypse” banner, nodding to the iconic comic storyline in which the villain pursues his war on mutantkind, and the show’s biggest recurring threat is clearly getting his full showcase. Then there is Episode 8, titled “The Dead Man’s Hand,” which has become the most discussed title of the bunch. In the post-credits scene of the Season 1 finale, Apocalypse was shown picking up one of Gambit’s playing cards, fueling theories that the card-wielding Cajun could return as one of the villain’s Four Horsemen, a storyline that does happen in the comics.

The excitement surrounding these titles arrives on the back of extraordinary critical momentum. Early reviews of the first four episodes have given Season 2 a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, surpassing even the first season’s already impressive 99% score and marking it as the highest-rated Marvel animated series to date. Critics who screened the opening episodes described the season as bigger, more ambitious, and even more emotional than its predecessor, delivering exciting action, stunning animation, and strong character work throughout.

The season introduces a range of new characters including Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Havok, Psylocke, Archangel, Colossus, and Danger, among others, while the team X-Force is also set to feature. A world premiere event was held at the Tribeca Festival ahead of the Disney+ debut. The addition of so many iconic Marvel names alongside the returning core cast suggests this is a season designed to reward longtime fans at every turn.

With the three-episode premiere arriving on July 1 and the full schedule running through August 12, the countdown is firmly on. Whether “The Dead Man’s Hand” delivers the Gambit resurrection fans have been aching for since that gut-wrenching Season 1 farewell is the question everyone is taking into this new run, so share your theories on what that title really means in the comments below.
