Zoe Saldaña Isn’t Ready To Join Another Taylor Sheridan Show, and Her Reason Makes Perfect Sense

Taylor Sheridan’s sprawling TV empire has a habit of pulling stars from one hit series into the next, but Zoe Saldaña isn’t planning to join another Taylor Sheridan show anytime soon. The Oscar winner has found her place in his world, and she seems perfectly content to stay there.

The trend she’s resisting is a real one. Sheridan’s television universe has become something of a revolving door for A-list talent, with actors regularly hopping between his Paramount+ dramas once they’ve proven themselves in one. That makes Saldaña one of the more notable holdouts, given how deeply entrenched she’s become in her own corner of that world.

Her journey to Sheridan’s orbit didn’t start smoothly either. Despite starring in the ‘Avatar’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Star Trek’ franchises, she initially said no when Sheridan approached her to lead ‘Special Ops: Lioness’. A year later, while filming ‘From Scratch’ in Italy, she reached back out on her husband’s advice and discovered Sheridan was still waiting for her.

Now, after 3 seasons playing CIA operative Joe McNamara, the 48-year-old told People she isn’t looking to add another Sheridan project to her résumé. When asked whether she’d consider crossing over into another series, Saldaña said Joe and ‘Lioness’ are all she can manage right now, adding that she can’t imagine taking on more of the Sheridan universe.

Her explanation comes down to sheer workload. She described being number one on the call sheet, the first one in and the last one out, and prepping months before anyone else can begin. In other words, the show already demands an enormous amount from her.

Still, she framed it in positive terms. Saldaña said she’s grateful Sheridan knows she’s reliable, just like her character, and that she shows up with heart, brains, and muscle at all times, before concluding she’s happy staying put at ‘Lioness’.

The future of the character remains a mystery, even to her. Asked whether she and Sheridan have discussed Joe’s path after the events of Season 3, Saldaña said she doesn’t know what another chapter might look like. For now, she seems focused on seeing Joe McNamara’s story through rather than starting over somewhere new.

That uncertainty follows a finale that left fans with plenty to talk about. Saldaña has also broken down the shocking Season 3 ending while making the case for a Season 4, keeping hope alive for more.

Saldaña has been candid about the challenge his writing presents. She has acknowledged that Sheridan raises the bar, but that seems to be exactly what she wants, having told People that she likes being challenged.

Her early hesitation was rooted in that same intensity. She once explained that she has ADD and is dyslexic, making large amounts of dialogue daunting, which is part of why she gravitated toward action. She later said taking on the role was her way of confronting those fears head-on.

Even so, her admiration for Sheridan has only grown. She has praised him for writing complex, boundary-pushing characters and staying deeply invested in his actors’ performances.

The series itself has become a major success for Paramount+. Its second installment drew 3 million views within its first 7 days, with Saldaña leading a cast that includes Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman. She and Kidman also serve as executive producers alongside Sheridan.

Given how much of herself she pours into the show, it’s no surprise she’s guarding her energy. For fans hoping to see her pop up elsewhere in Sheridan’s growing lineup, the wait will have to continue.
