6 Key Facts About ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Villain Cassandra Nova Confirmed by Ryan Reynolds

Before the teaser trailer for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ dropped, there were rumors circulating that Emma Corrin would portray the movie’s villain, Cassandra Nova. These rumors were substantiated by the US Copyright Listing and later confirmed by the official IMDb page. Cassandra Nova, a character from the comics, has a dark and complex backstory.

In the comics, Cassandra was Xavier’s twin while they were both in the womb. Xavier identified Cassandra as the “Mummudrai” by the Shi’ar, an opposing spirit to Professor Charles Xavier, possessing an equal but opposite nature.

Thanks to Xavier’s genetic abilities, Cassandra manifested physically, essentially becoming his twin. However, while gestating in their mother’s womb, Sharon Xavier, Cassandra was identified by Charles as malevolent. He attempted to eliminate her with his emerging psychic powers, leading to a miscarriage for Sharon. Despite this, Cassandra survived and spent decades in a sewer wall, constructing a new body and planning revenge against her brother.

Cassandra is infamous for orchestrating numerous genocides and attempted genocides against mutants and humans alike. Thus, her inclusion among the MCU’s villains seems appropriate.

We’re in the dark about her motives in the movie, but industry insiders claim to have some insight, or at least they act like they do. Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez recently shared six things we supposedly need to know about Cassandra Nova, and it seems she fits the mold of your typical villain.

Traits 1-5 are typical of many Marvel villains, but this post stands out because Ryan Reynolds liked it, suggesting Alex’s insights are likely accurate regarding the movie. There’s also a rumor circulating that Cassandra enjoys hunting down variants of Professor X across the multiverse.

Aside from this, most of what we know about the villain comes from the trailer. We witnessed Cassandra effortlessly facing off against Wolverine. Several theories suggest that Nova may be connected to the destruction of Wolverine’s reality. It’s possible that she wiped out the X-Men in that reality, and Wolverine either couldn’t or wouldn’t stop her, leading to his current isolation.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is scheduled to premiere on July 26. The movie will be offered in several premium formats such as IMAX, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, and Cinemark XD. Initially slated for release on September 6, November 8, and May 3, it has been integrated into Phase Five of the MCU.
