Who Is Emilia Clarke Playing in MCU’s Secret Invasion? Our Predictions

Ever since Emilia Clarke broke out of the scenes as the Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, she has since been one of the most in-demand stars in Hollywood today. As such, she has found herself in another soon-to-be hit T.V. production in the form of Secret Invasion, which is set to see a release date sometime in the earlier part of 2023. But the problem is that Emilia Clarke’s character has been quite mysterious, as Disney and Marvel Studios have kept things silent in relation to who exactly the Game of Thrones star is playing in the upcoming MCU series.

There is still a long way to go before Secret Invasion finally becomes available on Disney+, but that doesn’t stop us from trying to look at the possibilities in relation to who Emilia Clarke will be playing in this series. There are only a few possibilities as far as the information we have is concerned. So, with that said, let’s look at how Emilia Clarke could possibly be playing in the MCU’s Secret Invasion.

Who Is Emilia Clarke Playing In Secret Invasion?

We know for a fact that there are a lot of different shows and movies that are still in the Multiverse Saga of Marvel Studios, as the MCU is only getting hotter and hotter every single year. One such series that fans are excited about is Secret Invasion, which is set to introduce an entirely new storyline hidden within the greater narrative of the MCU.

Of course, while we still don’t know exactly what Secret Invasion will be all about except for what the trailer has shown us, what we also know is that Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury will be working together with a familiar face in the form of Emilia Clarke, who we already know is going to be in Secret Invasion. 

Ever since her massive success in Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke has been a modern-day pop culture icon, and it is only right that she once again sees the light of television glory in an MCU production. However, who is Emilia Clarke playing in Secret Invasion? This is a question that has been bugging quite a few fans ever since it was announced that the Mother of Dragons would be having a big role in the upcoming Marvel Studios series.

At this point, we are not sure who Clarke will be playing in Secret Invasion. However, based on the information that we know, there are some clues in relation to who her character is. But mind you that these are all just speculations at this point.

Marvel fans were quick to point out that Tenor, which is the gif aggregator that we often use on social media, may have accidentally revealed the character of Emilia Clarke in the upcoming Secret Invasion series. That’s because, when you use Tenor, you can use gifs that represent scenes of characters from movies and T.V. series. And, in most cases, the character gifs that you see in Tenor come with titles that correspond to the name of the characters in the gif.

In this case, Emilia Clarke’s Secret Invasion Tenor gif is labeled “it’s the beginning Abigail Brand.” The gif allows you to see the actor saying, “it’s the beginning,” and “Abigail Brand” is the name of the character saying the sentence.

This suggests that Clarke may indeed be playing a character named Abigail Brand in Secret Invasion. Of course, this isn’t an entirely accurate leak, but there is still a good possibility that this is actually legit. And Marvel Studios may have “allowed” Tenor to leak the name of Clarke’s character to increase the engagement among fans on social media and on the internet and to confuse them in relation to Clarke’s possible character.

Of course, Abigail Brand is a canon character in comic books. She is the commander of S.W.O.R.D., which is the agency that basically replaced S.H.I.E.L.D., which was infiltrated by Hydra. We know that this agency was introduced in WandaVision and is tasked with protecting the world against extraterrestrial threats and other similar dangers. In that regard, there is a good chance that Brand will be taking part in the series because of the fact that Secret Invasion will focus heavily on the Skrulls.

Then again, we already know that Emilia Clarke herself leaked information regarding who she will be playing in Secret Invasion. There were rumors that suggested that she would be playing Veranke, and that is still a possibility.

We previously wrote about Veranke in a past article. Briefly stated, Veranke is the queen of the Skrull Empire and was the main enemy of the 2008 Secret Invasion crossover comic book event in Marvel. Of course, the Skrulls that Fury has been allied with in the MCU since the events of Captain Marvel are some of the good guys, but there is still a good possibility that these Skrulls are a minority and that Veranke is looking to wreak havoc on Earth using the Skrulls’ ability to shapeshift beyond recognition.

In the trailer, we saw that Clarke is indeed human and is seemingly invested in helping Nick Fury. But we’ve been tricked by the Skrulls before, especially in the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, where Fury and the other agents that helped Peter Parker were actually the Skrulls that we met in Captain Marvel. This means that, while it might be possible that Abigail Brand is Emilia Clarke’s character in Secret Invasion, this very same character could be Veranke in disguise.

Why Is Emilia Clarke’s Character Such A Secret?

It has always been the case that Marvel Studios tends to be secretive when it comes to its upcoming movies and T.V. shows. However, Emilia Clarke’s character seems to be a secret that Marvel Studios has been holding on to quite tightly. After all, most MCU productions reveal the names and identities of the characters months before their release. But Clarke’s character is still quite a secret, even though we already have our hunches.

The fact that Clarke’s character in Secret Invasion has been kept a secret well enough goes back to the very nature of this series. Secret Invasion isn’t called “secret” for no reason, as this is set to become one of the most secretive and mysterious MCU productions in recent history, especially if it follows certain themes from the comic book Secret Invasion storyline. 

In that regard, there is no doubt that Abigail Brand is still very much a secret, as far as Secret Invasion is concerned, because she could still be one of the Skrulls and may even be Veranke, who we know is the queen of the Skrulls in the comic books. The added mystery behind Brand in Secret Invasion only adds to the mystique behind this series, even though she is already an established character in the comics.

Then, again, there is still a good chance that Abigail Brand is indeed who she is and that Emilia Clarke’s character doesn’t have any kind of air of mystery behind her. After all, Samuel L. Jackson is getting older and will not be a prominent character in the MCU forever. In that regard, there is a good chance that Brand will be placed at the frontlines as the “new Nick Fury,” especially if she is indeed the commander of S.W.O.R.D.
