‘From’ Season 2 Episode 3 Ending Explained: Where Was Anna All This Time?
Welcome to the ending explained for “From” Season 2 Episode 3. In the last week’s episode, we saw that the newcomers from the bus, in large part, failed to integrate with the residents of the town and mostly paid with their lives, with only a handful of them surviving. Boyd returned now troubled with a strange affliction. And James, Tabitha, and Jade are nowhere near solving the mystery that surrounds them all.Â
In this week’s episode, we’ve seen the aftermath of the first night, and unsurprisingly at the end of the episode, we see that Anna is, in fact, alive. But before we give it all away, let’s continue with summarizing the events and analyzing them in more detail.
Boyd is no longer convinced that things happening are real
Boyd has returned more or less to his regular duties, now once again assuming the position of sheriff of the town. His first order of business is to assume authority among the newly arrived people. He gets into a small conflict with Randall (one of the troublemakers that arrived in town via bus). Randall wants to walk around the town with his rifle, which is something unacceptable because guns don’t really do much against the undead that are plaguing the town, and it only serves to make people even more nervous and prone to chaos.Â

Boyd says to Randall that he is free to keep his rifle, of course, but he needs to relocate to the forest in that case as he is not welcome inside the town. Randall realizes that this means certain death and gives away his rifle. I suspect that this is not the last we see of Randall, and he will cause more severe trouble in the future as he doesn’t seem like the type to follow Boyd’s authority.
Boyd has been through a lot in the last couple of episodes. We know that he woke up inside an abandoned shaft and met an old chained-up guy named Martin, that was likewise a former Marine. Martin saved Boyd but was later infected with something before dying under suspicious circumstances. Due to everything that transpired and the fact that random people keep showing up around him, knowing extremely personal details about his life makes all of this all the more strange.Â

Boyd is slowly becoming suspicious about the whole affair. He is only half convinced that all of this is real. We see him at Abby’s grave, confessing his grievances and sharing with Abby what bothers him.
He meets up with Ellis and tries to explain everything about the tree and teleportation, the lighthouse, and the spiders. Ellis accuses him of lying, not believing a word that his father is telling him.Â
Who are Brian and Kelly & how are they connected to Boyd?
Ellis goes to the forest to help Kenny with some traps. The two get into a smaller argument because Ellis is mostly useless, and instead of helping with the traps, he keeps picking wildflowers for Fatima, who is more troubled than ever.
While repairing the traps, Ellis and Kenny discover a young girl named Kelly in a catastrophic condition. Kelly was one of the newcomers on the bus; she decided to spend her first night in town with her boyfriend, Brian, because they were unaware of the danger.Â

Brian and Kelly let the monsters inside a bar, unaware that it will lead to their deaths. Monsters drag Brian and Kelly into the nearby forest and deal with Brian first, making Kelly watch the whole ordeal. Later when they were done with Brian, they took a long metal rod from the nearby traps and stuck it inside Kelly’s skull, pinning her to a tree.
Kelly survived and was fully conscious by some miracle (and misfortune). She woke up to Ellis and Kenny inspecting her body and was, at the time, unaware of what happened to her.Â
Kenny brought Kristi to the forest to inspect Kelly’s injuries, and sadly there was nothing that Kristi could have done to save the girl’s life. Even if the circumstances were normal, it would be extremely hard to separate Kelly from the tree and pull out the metal rod from her head without killing her almost instantly. There was simply nothing they could do to save her life; they could only minimize her suffering.Â

Kenny, Ellis, and Krisi started contemplating how to “euthanize” Kelly most peacefully and painlessly when Boyd showed up. As soon as he saw Kelly pinned to a tree, he knew what had to be done. Boyd managed to free Kelly from the metal rod, but sadly she passed away almost instantly. Later, Boyd learned her name and her boyfriend’s name, which freaked him out even more.Â
Boyd reveals to Donna that while he was on a mission with the military, his vehicle triggered an EDI grenade, and most soldiers were dead on impact. There was one young soldier that died in his arms, and his name was Brian Kelly. So how is this connected to Boyd?
Kelly and Brian were two young people inside the town that he couldn’t save, and Brian Kelly was a young soldier that he couldn’t save while he was on active duty with the military. Boyd is now convinced that his whole town is kind of his own personal hell since there are too many coincidences that reference deeply personal things happening to him that no one else except perhaps his wife knew about.
Either Boyd is losing his mind, or he is right, but only to some extent.Â
What did Tabitha see & How it’s connected to Ethan?
Tabitha and Jim are finally reunited, but they face one major problem. Since their house collapsed, they have nowhere to stay, and Jim is too injured to work on a solution. Mrs. Liu, Kenny’s mother, invites them to stay with her Kenny and Jade until things settle down a bit.
Tabitha also asks Mrs. Liu whether she can go through some old supplies to find some clothing for the family since they lost practically everything. She and Julie start going through some old clothes while Ethan looks around for some toys with Mrs. Liu.
While sifting through old clothes, Tabitha suddenly sees what appear to be dead children standing outside in broad daylight. They appear to be brother and sister holding hands in half composed state. Tabitha collects herself and tells Julie this is not the first time she has “hallucinated.” Tabitha reveals that she saw her deceased son often following his death and could sometimes even hear him cry.Â

Everything settled briefly until Tabitha and Julie returned to Mrs. Liu’s house. There, Ethan played with some old Jenga cubes he found among old toys and managed to build an elaborate structure. Tabitha recognized this structure as something she came across while she was in the tunnels under the town with Victor, where monsters sleep.
She tripped over a nearly identical structure made out of circular rocks. When she noticed what Ethan built, she saw the dead children again. It’s quite possible that those children were former residents of the town, and Ethan was now playing with their Jenga cubes, and the cubes are in some way cursed.Â

What is the symbol that Jade keeps seeing?
We know that Jade spent the last few episodes looking for Victor, who was stuck under the town in the tunnels with Tabitha. Victor returned to the colony house but immediately noticed that someone had been through his things and that some things were missing. It was his violin.
One of the residents from the Colony house pointed him in Jade’s direction, and sure enough, when Victor arrived at Mrs. Liu’s house, Jade was playing the violin.
Victor gets mad and warns Jade not to touch his stuff again, and Jade gets frustrated since he spends a lot of time obsessing over Victor and the connection between the strange magical symbols he keeps seeing.Â
Jade showed Victor the old journal he found in the supply closet. The journal was filled with scribbles of a strange symbol. It also held an accompanying photo of an older man and, in the background, a young boy that carries the same kind of lunchbox that Victor always carries.

Jade assumes that the young boy in the photo is Victor and is looking for some answers, but Victor refuses to provide them. He simply walks away in silence.
It’s quite possible that Victor never arrived in town like the rest of them. He may have been in town since the beginning and, somehow, knows what happened & how it happened. Victor is the town’s oldest resident and obviously knows his way around the tree trunks that teleport people seemingly at random.Â
Where was Anna all this time & how did she survive?
We spent the last couple of episodes wondering where Anna was. The last time we saw her, she pushed Boyd inside the tree trunk and told him she would be right behind him. Now at the end of the third episode, Kenny discovers Anna alive and well in the basement of Father Khatri’s house. We can’t be sure where Anna was all this time, but it’s quite possible that she did follow Boyd and got into the same tree trunk as him but ended up in a different place.

It’s also possible that the boy in white hid her in some other location as he was the one that pointed her in the right direction to save Boyd’s life. Anna most likely managed to survive much as Boyd, Tabitha, and Victor did by manipulating the underground system of tunnels while it was safe.Â
We’re going to have to wait until next Sunday for Anna to reveal her secrets when the fourth episode of From titled “This Way Gone,” airs on MGM+.
