Heavenly Delusion: Who Is Dr. Usami Shun? Meet the “other Doctor”!
As fans will know, Heavenly Delusion is a very peculiar manga and anime series. It combines many known elements but still manages to create a uniquely special story that has captured the attention of fans worldwide. Aside from the plot itself, Heavenly Delusion also offers us a series of amazing characters, and in this article, we will talk about one of them and explain their role in the story. The character in the spotlight is Dr. Usami Shun, who has been introduced as a mysterious character in Episode 7 of the anime. In this article, we will talk about this peculiar character, one of the many we’ve seen in the post-apocalyptic portion of the series. The article will reveal everything you need to know about Dr. Usami Shun and his role in the story so far.
Dr. Usami Shun is a supporting character introduced in Episode 7 of the anime and appears to be the leader of the enigmatic Immortal Order. He is a doctor, a surgeon, and, according to the words of his opponents, he seems to be carrying out inhumane experiments on people using mechanical and robotic parts while, at the same time, maintaining the life of a so-called “Deity.” He later approached Maru and Kiruko and asked them to help him.
The rest of this article will be about Dr. Usami Shun and his story in the Heavenly Delusion manga and anime series. We will introduce you to all the facts that are known about the strange man while, at the same time, not revealing too many spoilers from the manga, as the anime series has its own mysterious way of evolving, and we want to respect that. Still, if you’re not completely up-to-date with the events that have happened – so far – in the Heavenly Delusion manga, we have to warn you that the article is going to contain spoilers and that you might find out something you do not want to find out, so be careful.
Dr. Usami Shun is certainly going to play a bigger role later
Fans of Heavenly Delusion will know that the manga definitely has one of the more intriguing stories out there since every character and aspect of Ishiguro’s world is a story of its own, has a frightening background, and is extremely likable. The general idea of the world created by Ishiguro is that it operates in a strange reality where everything seems normal – in the context of its post-apocalyptic setting – but is actually weird and full of mysteries. Now, Dr. Usami Shun’s story will be portrayed in the next episode in more detail, but here, we will tell you the whole story while keeping the big mystery hidden.
Namely, as Maru and Kiruko reach a new destination, they are approached by a group called Liviuman, whom they believe are the Immortal Order they had been looking for. But it’s not really like that. It turns out that Liviuman is an opposing group that thinks that the Immortal Order is going inhumane experiments on humans using machine parts.
The Immortal Order also wanted to approach the protagonists, but they reached their location too late. Be that as it may, the Liviuman members ask Maru and Kiruko to help them by killing a supposedly hidden man-eater in the basement of the Order’s headquarters. Using their spy inside the Order, Maru and Kiruko enter the basement and locate a large man-eater that does not seem mobile and resembles one of the strange babies seen in the Academy portion of the story, only bigger and more deformed. Numerous larva-like man-eaters do not seem mobile either.
As the large man-eater hypnotizes Kiruko, she has a hallucination of being eaten alive by the smaller man-eaters who come out of the larvae. Still, she is woken up by Maruo when he kisses her. He then proceeds to kill the large man-eater, and soon after, they are approached by a tall, blonde man wearing an eyepatch. He doesn’t seem to be hostile toward them, and then they tell him that they are looking for Dr. Usami Shun. He tells them that he is, in fact, Dr. Usami Shun. He then asks them to help him. This is where Episode 7 ends, but we will tell you what happens later in this arc. Major spoilers for Episode 8 follow, so stop reading here if you don’t want to know what happens.

Dr. Usami Shun takes them up the building, where Maru and Kiruko observe that the Immortal Order is not going anything bas – they are helping injured people without limbs by giving them artificial limbs so they can live as normally as possible. There are no experiments, and they are not evil; all the people are very grateful to Dr. Usami for helping them.
As they observe that and see for themselves that the strange doctor is not a villain, Maru, and Kiruko are taken to the “Deity” of the Immortal Order. The “Deity” is, in fact, a severely deformed female human, bandaged everywhere except over one eye, without most limbs, and kept alive artificially using machines.
Dr. Usami explains that this is, indeed, a human, but that he is not doing any experiments and is saving her from becoming a man-eater. This shocks Maru and Kiruko, and it is the first time that the series confirms that man-eaters are actually “former humans,” as Usami explained.
They are humans infected with an incurable, deadly disease that slowly kills them, and after they die, they are turned into man-eaters. The only way to prolong this is to remove the infected body parts, which is only a temporary solution, as the disease will return at one point. This is why the girl, later identified as Hoshio, is in such a state.
The doctor then asks Maru to kill Hoshio, as he would like her to die a human; after Maru confirms that he can do it (which we’ve already known after the incident with Totori), Kiruko demands to know whether Hoshio really wants that. Usami says that Maru is able to hear them and that she can talk via a tablet.
She confirms what Usami said but wants to see the sky one more time. As she saw it, Maru used his special skill and killed Hoshio, whose last words to Usami were “Thank you” and “I love you,” which made the calm man cry.
And that is the story of Dr. Usami Shun. We haven’t revealed all the details; that much is true, but we don’t really want to spoil everything for you. As you can see, it is a very intriguing story, and the details we left out actually reveal the whole context of this tragedy, so we advise you to look up the manga. This has been revealed in the anime episodes that have aired so far; the manga offers many more details, but as we never do in our Heavenly Delusion articles, we won’t reveal too many spoilers. We just have to tell you that you can expect more exciting and shocking information in the future.
