As fans will know, Heavenly Delusion is a very peculiar manga and anime series. It combines many known elements but still manages to create a uniquely special story that has succeeded in capturing the attention of fans worldwide. Here on Fiction Horizon, we have most often written about the characters of Heavenly Delusion, and in that aspect, you might remember that we have written about Dr. Usami Shun and Hoshio not too long ago. In that article, we’ve said that they had very interesting stories and that their true identities are an intriguing mystery. Now that the anime’s first season is over, we can finally confirm what some fans have been suspecting for a while and reveal the true identities of Dr. Usami Shun and Hoshio.

Yes, Dr. Usami Shun and the Immortal Order’s “Deity,” Hoshio, are actually Shiro and Mimihime. Many fans speculated that early on, due to the similarities between Shiro and Usami Shun, and it was finally confirmed in Episode 13 of Season 1 that they are the two children from Takahara Academy. Mimihime’s reaction to the sky was the first hint, while the second was the button she gave Shiro, which Shun later had with him.

The rest of this article will be about Dr. Usami Shun and Hoshio in the Heavenly Delusion manga and anime series. Now that the first season is over, we can finally dig deeper into the story of these two characters and reveal their true identities, which were a mystery for a while. And while this article is mostly going to confirm what we already know, it has to be said that if you’re not completely up-to-date with the events that have happened – so far – in the Heavenly Delusion manga, we have to warn you that the article is going to contain spoilers and that you might find out something you do not want to find out, so be careful.

Dr. Usami Shun is Shiro, and Hoshio is actually Mimihime

We have said on more than one occasion that the Takahara Academy world and the post-apocalyptic outside world are, individually, quite interesting, but so far, the anime has managed to keep these two worlds apart, at least directly.

There have been a lot of implications but no direct connections. That is, until the first season’s final episode when the children from the Academy were finally connected to a couple of characters from the outside world. Remember Dr. Usami Shun and Hoshio? Well, we’ll have to revisit their story in this article.

Soon after Maru kills the Man-Eater in the underground garage, the two of them are approached by a tall, blonde man wearing an eyepatch. He doesn’t seem hostile toward them, and then they tell him they are looking for Dr. Usami Shun. He tells them that he is, in fact, Dr. Usami Shun.

He then asks them to help him and takes them up the building, where Maru and Kiruko, the so-called “Deity” of the Immortal Order. The “Deity” is, in fact, a severely deformed female human, bandaged everywhere except over one eye, without most limbs, and kept alive artificially using machines.

Dr. Usami explains that this is a human, but he is not doing any experiments and is saving her from becoming a man-eater. She is identified as Hoshio, and Usami then asks Maru to kill Hoshio, as he would like her to die a human; after Maru confirms that he can do it, Kiruko demands that Hoshio confirms that she agrees with it.

She ultimately confirms what Usami said but wants to see the sky again. As she saw it, Maru used his special skill and killed Hoshio, whose last words to Usami were “Thank you” and “I love you,” which made the calm man cry. Later on, as he helps Maru and Kiruko, Shun is seen with Hoshio’s corpse, holding a button with the symbol of the Takahara Academy. He later commits suicide while Maru and Kiruko find that button and take it with them.

Now, a lot of fans initially suspected that Usami Shun could be Shiro, and while we knew the truth at the time of writing, we did not want to spoil anything. Hoshio’s identity was impossible to discern based on her looks, but suspecting that the man was Shiro, fans easily deduced that Hoshio could be Mimihime. So, why are we writing this again?

We can now finally confirm that Dr. Usami Shun is Shiro and Hoshio is, indeed, Mimihime. The anime has finally provided us with enough data to confirm this, so we no longer have to hide it. Although the anime hasn’t said anything as explicit as “Shiro will later become Usami Shun, and Mimihime will become Hoshio,” it is now clear, based on other evidence, that it is true.

Namely, when the Academy was attacked, Mimihime, Shiro, and two other students went outside. This was the first time that Mimihime saw the sky, and she immediately fell in love with it. Her reaction to the sky was similar to Hoshio’s reaction to the sky, and it now makes sense that Hoshio’s last wish was to see the sky one more time, as she really loved it completely. But this was just a hint. The proper piece of evidence is the button.

Namely, we’ve said that Shun killed himself while holding the button. In Episode 13, we saw Mimihime give Shun the button from her school uniform, which finally confirmed what many people had been suspecting.

Takahara Academy was closed at one point, and Mimihime and Shiro remained together in the outside world. There, Mimihime ultimately fell ill with the same disease that affected all the children in the Academy, and Shiro took care of her. It is not known when and why they changed their names, but everyone in the outside world knew them as Usami and Hoshio.
