Stormfront’s Death in ‘The Boys’ Explained: Here’s How She Met Her End
‘The Boys’ has had a good measure of truly depraved characters over the course of its three seasons. We definitely thought it didn’t get worse than Homelander, and then in season 2, Stormfront was introduced. At first, she seemed to push the counter-narrative to disgrace Vought on social media, only to be revealed as one of Vought’s many ancient skeletons in its closet. Stormfront was more brutal than we could have anticipated. Luckily, her overly long life came to a fitting end. And we’re here to discuss why & when.
Stormfront has been alive for more than a century
At first, Stormfront was introduced to the Seven as their newest member following Translucent’s demise. Stormfront was the queen of the memes. She had all the online know-how that allowed her to control the narrative and make or break the most powerful supes around.
The Seven weren’t exactly America’s favorites at this time, and the scandals just kept pilling on. Despite Homelander being severely annoyed by her at first, he loved being worshiped by the public more than anything. Stormfront was able to give him that through her massive viral following.
It was an ironic twist of fate when we figured out that Stormfront was a nearly century-old nazi who, several decades prior, operated under the name Liberty. She had to be “shelved for later” when her white supremacist views stopped aligning with the general American sentiment.
Stormfront was ordered to lay down low until the public forgot about her. Another irony is that, just like Homelander today, Stormfront was getting increasingly bold due to power going to her head. She advocated against and killed minorities out of sardonic fun and her twisted beliefs.
When she joined the Seven, Stormfront was over 103 years old. She was originally known as Adele Vought, a widowed wife of Frederick Vought and the first person to be successfully injected with Compound V, and quite possibly the first “superhero” to ever exist.
We know that Stormfront wanted to create the superior white race, presumably according to her own likeness. She was, considering everything we know, incredibly powerful and immortal. She was seemingly going to live forever, and with a powerful social media following, she could start slowly dripping the poisonous narrative back into her own court, but her life came to an abrupt end when she messed with none other but Homelander’s son. So what exactly happened?
What did Ryan do to Stormfront?
After Stormfront revealed to Homelander that she was a century-old nazi, he, in turn, revealed that he had a son. At first, Stormfront was elated with the idea of a superhero being born instead of created in a lab, and she was eager to meet the kid and had strong opinions on how he should be raised.
Stormfront was angry that Ryan was raised without superpowers as an important element of his life and without Homelander. She was also pissed that he seemed to enjoy things that other kids his age were enjoying.
She advocated for Ryan to train his powers often and advocated for Homelander to have a much more vital role in his upbringing, despite Homelander not even being aware that he had a son only a couple of weeks prior. It was a big change for both Ryan and Rebecca, and Rebecca was already planning to escape and hide her and her son from the danger that Homelander presented. And this is where the trouble started.
After Stormfront’s secret files were leaked to the public, she went after Kimiko and Starlight, blaming Starlight for what happened to her public image. Despite Starlight and Kimiko defending themselves, they couldn’t do much against Stormfront’s superior powers. When Queen Maeve joined the fight, she brutally beat up Stromfront until she was forced to escape.
Stormfront escaped to a different type of trouble, as Homelander sent her to track down Rebecca and Ryan, who were attempting to escape with Billy Butcher at that time. Stormfront planned to capture Ryan and kill Rebecca, but the child stopped her.
Ryan used his heat vision for the first time on Stormfront and charred almost every part of her body, leaving her covered in third-degree burns and her limbs bloodied stumps, but sadly, he also killed his mother in the process.
When Homelander saw Stormfront in a bloody heap on the ground, he was disappointed, but her life was ultimately saved since he had another use for her, a much more sinister use.
Stormfront decided to kill herself after being left at Homelander’s mercy
Following the great scandal regarding Stormfront’s association with legitimate nazis and her hidden history, Homelander publicly stated that she was contained and kept in a secret facility. This was only partially true.
Stormfront presented a danger to nobody, and she was hidden away in an undisclosed medical facility owned by Vought, where she was kept on life support following her traumatic injuries. Covered in bandages and being fed via tubes.
Homelander would occasionally visit her, but not out of the goodness of his heart. He would visit her whenever he was frustrated and needed a sexual release, and she was powerless to stop him.
Once again, Homelander is an extremely depraved sociopath, and the only reason he kept Stormfront around is that she was still singing his praises. Stormfront hoped that Homelander wouldn’t abandon their original plan of creating a supremacist army, but Homelander was never into that all that much in the first place, so he shut down her plan and hopes for the last time.
Having nothing to live for no longer, and her nazi utopia being extinguished, Stormfront gave up on her life. She was unwilling to be used as a sexual toy by Homelander. Stormfront decided to bite her tongue off, and being unable to move her limbs, she choked on her own blood.
Stormfront was highly immune to most types of injuries, but rarely can any supe survive being choked or drowned.
So, Stormfront actually killed herself. Ryan was only the first step toward her downfall, but she did the last final step herself.
