Many interesting characters appear in SPY×FAMILY, and while the major focus has always been on the protagonist trio – Loid, Yor, and Anya – numerous side characters impacted the series and deserve some attention. The characters we are going to talk about are Olka and Gram Gretcher, two secondary characters who played an important role in the Cruise Adventure Arc. In this article, we will discuss their role in the story, why they needed protection from Yor and the Garden, and how the whole mission ended as far as the two of them are concerned.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Olka and Gram Gretcher are secondary characters from Spy×Family who played a major role in the Cruise Adventure Arc. Their lives were in danger, so they boarded the Princess Lorelei to escape Ostania.
  • The Shopkeeper gave Yor the assignment to protect them, so the assassin had to board the ship with them and protect the two from assassins along with Matthew McMahon.
  • Although they had some trouble, they were able to defeat the assassins in question and thus saved the lives of Olka and her son, Gram, but also Zeb, who accompanied the two on the ship.

Olka Gretcher’s family led the Underworld until an internal struggle put her in danger

The Gretcher family has some history in Ostania, and is one of the country’s most notable families. Her father and her family, in general, ran the Underground in a very honorable way, and she was in charge of smuggling food to the people on the streets of Ostania. This is how she when she was young, met the young Zeb, whom she gave a piece of bread and thus earned his eternal loyalty, which would become apparent later in life when Zeb decided to risk his life to help Olka and her son escape from Ostania.

So, what happened? Well, while her family did an honorable job running the Underground, it happened that an internal conflict arose, which ultimately ended in the deaths of her father and her brothers.

This, ultimately, led to a change in the leadership of the organization, as Leonard Hapoon took over and made it his goal to completely eliminate the Gretcher family. Not long after that, a bounty was put on the heads of both Olka and her baby boy, Gram. This is why Olka and her son had to flee, but that was easier said than done, as assassins were everywhere.

She decided to board the Princess Lorelei and leave the country aboard the ship, but she knew that Hapoon would try to kill her there, so she needed help surviving the trip. She then visited the Shopkeeper, who was the leader of the Garden, a group of elite assassins, and also a friend of her father. Her father had helped the Shopkeeper earlier, and Olka knew that she could talk to him for help, which is what she did. The Garden didn’t usually do such missions, but out of gratitude to her father, the Shopkeeper accepted, and Olka was guaranteed protection while on the ship.

And so, her escape mission could start. In the next section of this article, you are going to find out what happened on the Princess Lorelei and whether the Garden was successful in protecting the woman and her baby boy on the ship.

She had to be protected because she would have been killed otherwise

So, why did Olka and her son need protection in the first place? Well, it is a known fact that underground conflicts don’t tend to resolve themselves lightly. So, when Leonardo Hapoon took over the Underground and started eliminating her family, she was also on his hit list, which makes sense, however brutal it might seem (and it is brutal, really).

So, when he put a bounty on her head and the head of her young boy, she had to find a way to escape. With her family slaughtered, the young boy was all she had left, and that is why she needed protection.

She had Zeb with her, but he couldn’t really protect her properly, no so she went to the Shopkeeper, whom she knew could protect her. Although the Garden didn’t do such jobs, the Shopkeeper accepted as gratitude to Olka’s father, who had helped him earlier. He then summoned Yor, one of his most skilled assassins, and tasked her with protecting Olka and her son aboard the Princess Lorelei, which would take her to a foreign country where she would be safe.

Zeb tagged along, as the two of them had a connection from when they were small, and they boarded the ship as Furseal and Shaty Grey, respectively. Not long after they boarded the ship, it became apparent that they would be targeted, so Yor had to do her best to save her. It included tailing, moving her from her room, surveilling the ship, and fighting assassins. So, were they ultimately successful?

Yes, they were. With the help of Matthew McMahon, Yor managed to protect both Olka and her son, as well as Zeb, who also risked his life to save Olka. A final confrontation took place on the ship, and Yor was, along with Matthew, able to take down the assassins who revealed themselves and tried to kill Olka. It was an epic battle, but Yor won, and Olka was saved. During the trip, the two women even bonded, and Olka revealed her son’s name to Yor. She even let her hold him for a brief moment, so the story, luckily, ended happily!
