Jujutsu Kaisen has some of the best fights in modern anime. The characters’ powers come to the forefront, and with such great animation, we can only marvel at what Jujutsu Kaisen has to offer. Among the moves seen in the series, the Black Flash is certainly one of the most curious ones, both because it is exceptionally powerful and very complex. It is said that no sorcerer – not even Gojo – can use Black Flash at will, but the fight against Mahito suggested that Yuji did use it at will. Did he? This article is going to reveal all you need to know about this interesting issue in the series.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • The Black Flash is an incredibly powerful yet complex technique utilized by Jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits alike in Jujutsu Kaisen.
  • The technique is actually spatial distortion brought about by a 0.000001-second lag between the strike and the impact of the cursed energy, which significantly increases the attacker’s force.
  • As the series specified, the Black Flash cannot be used at will by anyone (not even Gojo), but some sorcerers are so skilled with it that they can leave such an impression, and that is what happened with Yuji during the fight with Mahito.

The Black Flash is one of the most complex techniques in the series

The Black Flash is a spatial distortion brought about by a 0.000001-second lag between the strike and the impact of the cursed energy. Then, double the caster’s strength by itself by 2.5. The cursed energy darkens, and space twists at the exact instant when the energy’s impact is out of sync with the strike. Nobody knows how to use the Black Flash on command. There is a difference, nevertheless, between those who have and those who have not yet used it. Heaven and Earth are as far apart as their cursed energies can be. Indeed, after realizing a Black Flash, one’s comprehension and degree of cursed energy improve significantly.

The thrower enters a stupor akin to that of a top athlete, as Kento Nanami and Aoi Todo clarify, regardless of whether the initial Black Flash resulted from skill or chance. Normally a voluntary act, manipulating his cursed energy becomes second nature to him, much like breathing. It’s as though he’s learned every facet of cursed energy that he was ignorant of before.

It was as if Nobara Kugisaki had grasped the core of the cursed force. When that happens, a fighter can become up to 1200% of their potential. Some persons can unleash many Black Flashes in a row when in this second condition. Actually, that’s not all that unusual, and doing it that way is significantly simpler. With four uses, Kento, Yuji Itadori, and Satoru Gojo currently hold the record for the most consecutive Black Flashes.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Why Was Mahito Running From Yuji Itadori?

No, Yuji did not use Black Flash at will, but he sure made us believe that he did

Now that we have explained the essentials, we can actually go to the decisive battle between Mahito and Yuji, which also included Aoi Todo, but his role – as far as this article is concerned – is not that important. We know that during the fight, Itadori used Black Flash on Mahito more than once, but Mahito used the technique as well. It was explained in the series that a Black Flash cannot be used at will, which means that Yuji was more than lucky in that fight… or was he?

Well, the earlier Blach Flashes in the series are not that important here, as they happened as they did, and no one really questions how they were used. What interests us here is the Black Flash Yuji used at the end of the battle against Mahito’s true form. Namely, at that point, Mahito deduced that Yuji would go for an extremely powerful Black Flash so he could penetrate his new body’s thick skin, but he also knew that no one could use Black Flash at will, so he quickly came up with a countermeasure.

But, as Yuji tricked him with his Divergent Fist technique, and Todo did the same with his bluff, Mahito was confused which provided Yuji with an opening. He did, indeed, land a powerful Black Flash and defeat Mahito with it, but if you think it was planned, it was not. Yuji was simply “lucky”, so to say (it wasn’t just luck, but it wasn’t conscious either), and the narrator also explained that Yuji is so good with the technique that he gives the impression of being able to use it at will, but he did not actually use it like that.
