MonsterVerse: What Is Shimu? Meet the Upcoming Reptilian Ice Titan

By far, the most popular creature from the MonsterVerse is Godzilla, which appeared in all movies and took part in some of the most iconic battles in the Universe. However, since MonsterVerse keeps expanding, it’s natural to expect that additional titans will also be introduced. One of those Titans is Shimu, who is set to appear in the upcoming ‘Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire.’ Let’s see who Shimu is and how powerful the Titan can be.

Shimu will be a reptilian Titan antagonist in the new Godzilla movie

The existence of Shimu was initially hinted at in the 2022 Call of Duty collaboration with ‘Godzilla vs. Kong,’ depicted as a cave painting engaged in battle with Godzilla. Although the full reveal of Shimu in marketing for the film is yet to happen, merchandise and an image on the box of a Playmates figure provide some insight into what Shimu is supposed to look like. Shimu is depicted as a massive, hulking quadrupedal monster covered in dense reptilian scutes with a purplish-white coloration. Its relatively featureless head boasts two forward-facing eyes and is distinguished by a crest of bright purple spikes.

Shimu is set to appear in the upcoming 2024 Legendary Pictures film, ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.’ Described as a legendary ice Titan with unstoppable, world-ending powers, Shimo is positioned as an antagonist who will oppose Godzilla and Kong. The name “Shimo” is derived from the Japanese word meaning “frost” or “gray hair” and was first revealed on a Jada Toys Metalfigs figure at the 2023 Singapore Comic Con.

How powerful is Shimu compared to other Titans?

Well, everything we know so far when it comes to Shimu’s abilities comes from the same toyline in which the Titan was first leaked. According to Playmates’ description Shimu has access to powerful “Frost Bite Blast” which is supposed to be a beam of ice that is capable of rendering Shimu’s oppnenets frozen solid in their tracks.

As far as the rest of the abilities go, we can assume that Shimu has physiology the same as the other Titans meaning that it’s both extremely durable and extremely powerful. The fact that the ice Titan will go up against not only Godzilla but also Kong tells you enough about its abilities.

It’s quite possible that Shimu will turn out to be more powerful than Godzilla and Kong individually, and the two will need to enter an uneasy alliance to defeat it.
