‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ Who or What Is HiHi?
‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ is a reboot of a 2005 movie that focuses on two strangers John and Jane Smith, who are working for an international spy organization and simulating marriage in order to create a perfect cover for their less-than-legal activities. Throughout the show, both John and Jane are communicating with a mysterious entity that they dubbed “HiHi” who is giving them orders and quite frankly, some creepy advice. The question of who or rather what HiHi is was never answered properly within the show and this is something we’re going to deal with in this article. Let’s go.
HiHi is the only contact that John and Jane have with the organization that they are working for
When we first met Jane and John Smith, we saw them on what looked like job interview albeit with creepy and weird questions, and the screen that they were interacting with actually needed their nail clippings.
If you’re truly working for a spy agency this is to be expected and it’s glaringly obvious why their own point of touch with their “employers” is a single screen with straightforward commands on what or what not to do. Now the exact name behind HiHi was not actually revealed, this is just what Jane and John called the entity due to its system nickname. The other Jane and John Smith had a different nickname for the entity – superior.

The first few examples of communication between Jane and John Smith and HiHi were professional and rather straightforward, but as soon as Jane turned out to be the better spy between the two, the entity behind HiHi started favoring her and asking extremely personal questions. This led me to believe that the role of HiHi is not only to give directions and missions, it’s also to mess with their agent’s heads.
The other Jane and John Smith worshiped HiHi almost like a deity
Remember when Jane and John invited the other Jane and John Smith to dinner and they started sucking up their employers despite them being nowhere around? It seemed like HiHi meddled so much in their lives, in their personal matters to a point that John and Jane Smith had almost godlike reverence toward it. Both Jane and John commented that HiHi knew them better than they knew themselves, which would imply that HiHi is in charge of brainwashing as well. However, it most likely works over a longer period of time, which means that the targets they deem too difficult to brainwash are eliminated (something we’ve seen when HiHi asked Jane to eliminate her John and when the other Jane and John Smith were tasked with Finalizing Jane and John Smith.)
There’s also the fact that HiHi was spying on Jane and John the whole time, which was the most obvious when the company replaced Jane’s laptop when she crashed when John got three strikes and decided to leave her.
Could the Hot Neighbor be HiHi?
I was absolutely convinced that the Hot Neighbor was HiHi, mostly due to the way he approached Jane out of nowhere and asked a ton of personal questions, and when John discovered all those maps inside his house and how Hot Neighbour was collecting info on them, I was sure he was at least someone on the lower level of the agency, but alas it turned out that he was just a real estate broker. This makes sense in the context of his profession that he is nosy and spies on them, especially if he is looking for just about any excuse whatsoever to plant himself on their property.
The identity of HiHi will most likely remain secret until the next season
As of the moment of the writing of this article, there is no news regarding the possible season 2 of ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ but it’s clear that so many questions remained open and unanswered to be discussed in the upcoming season. The ambiguous ending left plenty of space to explore the lore behind the company since practically nothing was addressed regarding that concept in the series, most focus was on Jane and John’s relationship.
HiHi was used as a marketing stunt in real life
In the past week and a half, a mysterious Instagram account called HiHi has orchestrated a series of high-concept pranks on New York residents and internet users, involving prominent figures like Tyra Banks and comedian Mark Normand.
The “Stolen Shoes” incident at an art exhibit on January 19 marked the beginning of the saga, involving influencers posting about the alleged “art heist” and causing confusion with unclear product promotions labeled as “Paid Partnerships.” The mystery surrounding HiHi continued, with Donald Glover also being linked to the events.
On January 25, confusion peaked with a video depicting a disruption at New York Comedy Club. Comedian Mark Normand was performing when two individuals, seemingly unfamiliar to him, crashed the stage. They were soon escorted out by supposed security guards, leading to Normand also being removed from the venue. The hosts later resumed the show, telling the audience to evacuate, creating online speculation about the authenticity of the events. The New York Comedy Club later clarified that the disturbance was part of filming by the mysterious Instagram account once again.
All of this chaos was eventually once again traced to Glover and it turned out this was just a marketing stung to promote the upcoming show. This is not all, however, In December, the L.A.-based marketing company Verb posted a contest called the “HiHi Mission Contest,” inviting participants to carry out various missions at cultural events in New York City. The contest explicitly excluded Amazon employees and affiliates from eligibility, for a good reason as well. Before you decided to jump right into the contest, however, it’s unfortunately closed and has been closed for a few days now, even before the premiere of the show.
