Record-Breaking Ticket Sales for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Amid Anticipation of Boosting Disney’s Recent Box-Office Performance
One of the most highly anticipated upcoming releases in the MCU is undoubtedly ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ This movie signifies several significant milestones—it marks Deadpool’s debut in the MCU and stands as the sole MCU film slated for release in 2024. There’s a hopeful anticipation that it will help restore some of the faith lost among fans due to a string of poorly received movies in recent years.
The film is generating considerable buzz by selling tickets well in advance of its release, with The Hollywood Reporter already noting record-breaking sales several months ahead of schedule.
Since tickets went on sale on Monday, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has shattered the R-rated record and boasts the highest pre-order sales of any movie slated for release in 2024.
AMC Theatres chief Adam Aron commented the following:
Some 200,000 movie fans have bought their AMC tickets already. This is more Day 1 ticket sales at AMC than for any other R-rated movie ever.
Fandango, a premier online ticketing service for cinemas, announced robust first-day sales for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ marking the strongest sales of 2024 thus far. These figures also represent the franchise’s best performance to date and set a new record for an R-rated feature film. While exact revenue figures were not disclosed by Fandango or AMC, industry insiders estimate first-day sales to be in the range of $8 million to $9 million, based on extrapolations from the 200,000 tickets cited by Aron.
The success of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ holds significant weight. Early projections suggest that the film could surpass the $100 million mark at the domestic box office, a feat no movie in 2024 has achieved thus far. Moreover, the film stands as a strong contender to cross the billion-dollar threshold globally for Disney, potentially becoming the first movie to do so in recent times.
In 2023, Disney faced a notable setback, landing on the list of the biggest box-office underperformers. This marked the first time in recent history that the studio did not produce a billion-dollar movie. Despite high expectations, ‘The Marvels,’ a strong contender, emerged as the lowest-grossing MCU film to date, failing to surpass the $100 million mark at the domestic box office and resulting in substantial losses for the studio.
